My Dad is 86, and, after twin hip operations + other stuff too numerous to list, is struggling with the clutch on his current car.

I'd like to find him something like a Honda Jazz automatic for around £3000.

We're in Burnham.....any suggestions on decent, reliable second hand car dealers in the general area, please? Quite happy to travel into London, Kent, Suffolk, etc.

Thanks.

Neal, I suggest you get him a car he does not have to sit down into. A lot easier if he just parks his bum, then swings his legs in.
The smaller people carriers do that, and have good turning circles for parking.

Vauxhall Zafira, that kind of thing.

I like Richlee Autos on the Carpenters Arms roundsabout Leigh, they seem more honest than most.l

I can't help with reliable dealers but my father changed to an Vauxhall Agila 1.2 automatic at the age of 90. He loves it. Although it looks a bit naff I also like driving it. I think it's based on the Suzuki Swift. One good feature for him is that it is quite a tall car so it's easy for him to get in and out. He has had a new hip recently and wouldn't manage a 'low down' car.

Thanks Full Circle and Dipper.

Another vote for Richlee Motors. Excellent service and after-sales service.

There's another dealer next to Richlees who recently sold a car to our daughter. Seemed decent people and did what they said they would. Could also try CSB Autoseekers in Maldon (The Causeway). They have a large stock including several in your price range.

Thanks.....looks like next weekend will be car hunting, instead of getting the engine back in the boat.

You could also try Springfield Motors. They are by the recycling centre in Burnham. They mostly offer servicing and tyres but have a few cars for sale. Excellent local reputation.

For the record, I have no connection with any of the businesses mentioned.

Thank you for resurrecting one of 'my' old threads.

Apologies, but I have no idea what a "negk phev" is: some easy to use modern driving aid ?

Anyway, my Dad bought a Rover 75 auto, which he loved. Sadly, he's had to give up driving now, due to his poor eyesight.

@NealB, @sailorman is in recovery from a stroke and may have occasional difficulty with keyboard work.... :) I think he means 'newPHEV' or maybe 'Niro PHEV'

Thank you: I was not aware of sailorman's travails, and wish him a speedy and successful recovery.

Thanks, also, for bringing me (at least partially!) up to date with modern car technology!

Probably out of reach price-wise, but an EV with adaptive cruise control is incredibly easy to drive. I've got a VW ID.3, and it can out accelerate most things on the road and almost drives itself on motorways or A roads.

Sadly my father has also given up driving. They wouldn't let him take his car through the pearly gates.
