No slip deck paint removal

Any ideas out there for an easy way to remove old and baked on international deck paint from a grip deck.
I have just tried a tungsten carbide scraper and this is not really touching it. Something a touch more aggressive is needed.

All suggestions gratefully received.

You have my sympathy.

When I had to do it I tried every kind of scraper and all soon blunted due to the grit in the paint.

Eventually I had to use paint stripper, and a hell of a lot of it.

I recoated with Hempel-Blakes Multicoat with non-slip granules added.

I wish I hadn't because it is useless and after less than 2 years it is starting to come off.

I am one who hates trying to strip old paint.

If the old deck paint is still adhering well ... why strip it off ? Get yourself a large can of exterior wall paint such as Fine Sandtex and paint over the old benefiting from its non-slip surface and the new paint putting the colour back ...

I can recommend screwfix ‘no nonsense’ paint stripper. It works it’s way through slowly but doesn’t damage epoxy underneath. You need to leave it on a few days though to allow it to work If you have a thick build up of paint.

Problem with most liquid paint stripper - they attack GRP ..... and need to be fully washed off before any other work done.

Sniper mentions 'epoxy' ..... most GRP boats are Polyester - not epoxy.

apply thin polythene over the stripper to keep it moist & working, once its dried it no longer works

That's a good tip. I wish I had done that ......

I removed mine with a random orbit sander with 40 grit pads and also a tungsten carbide scraper. However, much of mine was in poor condition. I wasn't fastidious about removing it down to the grp though, when it was adhering well I just took of the top layer. It was hard work.

Caustic soda mixed with wallpaper paste, diy nitromorse! A much cheaper alternative.
