No power to Yanmar ignition. SWMBO turned off using key instead of button

I connected a bulb from the positive connection at the starter to earth and there is no power so I presume the fault must be on the positve side. I will try and run a temporary wire from the battery switch to the starter connection to see if there is power. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare battery cable with me.

Just following that up. Which earth did you use? If the earth at the battery post then understood but did you use the earth on the engine block? If the latter than is that earth definately still connected to battery earth?

IIRC there is a fuse "hidden" away on top of the engine (as Pampas says) in amongst the wires. It is not easy to see. I can't remember off-hand what this does but remember noting the location in case I had problems!!

There is a 30 amp fuse ‘hiding’ on the port side of the motor. A short red line (4” on mine) comes from inside the motor to an inline fuse, after which it goes to the starter /ignition set up. The fuse holder is not very big and hard to locate if taped over. If this fuse is burned out the motor will not start, trust me I know!

I think the fuse is a red herring. The OP has already stated there is no positive supply to the starter motor.

Cor, this thread is better than "Corrie" - what ever will happen next? - tune in tomorrow for the next thrilling episodes....

There can be no harm in checking this fuse!

The Corrie saga is over: The battery positive from the battery switch to the starter is connected by a substantial plastic push in connector and it wasn't seated properly. Everything is fine now and SWIMBO
is a happy bunny as it was not her fault switching off using the ignition key. Thank you all so much for helping out. It just shows what a great forum this is. I am now going to get showered and spend the evening on Windermere.

Just did some fault finding on my 1Gm10 and the Clymer manual indicates a fuse in the wiring harness. Found fuse holder in the loom just back from the starter and alternator
