At the risk of stirring this up again, this is just to remind anyone wanting to get rid of their old flares at Christmas to hand them in to the CG! Apart from anything else you might scare the reindeer.
Following reports from Thames MRSC for yesterday (Weds), when noble volunteers got dragged away from their families to go looking:
222049 UTC MRSC Thames received a report of a single red flare from a merchant vessel transiting the River Thames close to Canvey Island. The flare appeared to in the Benfleet Creek area; Canvey Coastguard was requested to investigate. Enquiries proved in-conclusive, but no further reports had been received and consider False Alarm, flare probably fired inland with Malicious Intent.
222109 UTC MRSC Thames received a report of a single red flare from a member of public, who was located in Conyer Creek, River Swale.
Herne Bay and Sheppey Coastguard teams investigated and broadcast action was taken by Thames Coastguard, but nothing was found un-toward.
Considered False Alarm, with Good Intent.

Oh that type of Flare. I was thinking that tho' they are just sooo fashionable, the thought of tripping over on one's flares after a few pints of babycham is just too terrible to bear /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
