Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me please? I'm trying to obtain sample NMEA data from a yacht / vessel of some sort for a project. What I would like is 10 to 15 minutes of logged NMEA sentences including GPS, depth, etc data. Can anyone help me with this please?

In my opinion NEMAtalker is one of the best simulators available.
The usual procedure is to install it onto a 2nd computer and output the NMEA stream through it's serial port at the standard 4800,8,1,0 baud setting.
However, if you want to run NEMAtalker on the same box as an existing navigation program, either without tying-up the serial ports, or where only one serial port is available, then this can be done by the use of a virtual serial port program.
Either method will give you authentic NMEA data - just as if it was genuine and being output in real-time.

But if all you want is a text file of stored NMEA output, I could make up a suitable file for you - just let me know desired Lat, Long, Direction, Speed, Depth etc.

PM me if you need more help.

Can't help you, but just wanted to say I do like your site. Very cool way to see AIS data in real time, and I guess could even be useful inshore boats with laptops and data modems.

And for Gib and Vancouver too!

Great stuff. May I ask, is it a 'hobby' site or do you have plans to expand it?

Jeremy,

Many thanks for the positive comments about the web site http://www.OrwellAIS.com - it started earlier this year when I bought myself an AIS receiver for Christmas and seems to have evolved from there. So, yes it is simply a hobby but I do plan to extend it. I'd like to add more sources of data and I'm currently working ion entending the software to allow easier reporting of ship activity across the sources.
