nmea question

My 128 is connected to a DSC VHF, tillerpilot and AIS without any problems. Just get the wire colours right as each manufacturer seems to use a different colour code.

These 2 piccies show a simple junction box with sockets (RS232) fitted into sides and plugs to leads ... it was made to independently connect a PDA and PC to a GPS ... such that one could be disconnected without other being affected. Inside its just soldered wires across between respective pins. You could use any suitable plug and socket basically ... even Telephone socket and cable as I did on another boat .... : >

Well said - too many folks (especially in here) want to make interfacing instruments into a black art.

That said the NEMA specs allow only for the connection of 2 instruments. However you will usually be ok wiht 4 or 5 connected - there will be data collisions and 'corruptions' but the instruments will sort this out themselves. ONce you get above 4 connected the wires get too busy an dnothing gets through so you need a special box of tricks to sort it - there are many available or you could get a RS232 buffer or Multiplexer from Maplin or the like.
