Nmea plug for foruno 1621 radar

My latest pride and joy has a Foruno 1621 radar. I would like to take the output from my NAVMAN GPS and connect it to the input socket. This is a circular 4 pin male (ie, pins stick out) which clearly needs a plug to interface with it. Googling this has provided no solutions - and the radar is not in the first flush of youth. Have any fellow-forumites found a source of plugs for this sort of radar.

According to the manual:

Page 6-9, the NMEA cable is part no. 22S0021. Googling that produces this link, which includes your plotter in the compatibility list and suggests the part number in the manual is obsolete and has been replaced with Furuno 000-159-702.

Googling that produces the below on Ebay at £45 quid:

Other options are available on Ebay although all of them are going to ship from the USA at about the 40 quid mark and most/all might include further import charges. Given, however, that your radar's manual is dated 1993 that is perhaps not a bad result to keep old kit alive.

The manual as linked above includes the instructions for connection.

Perhaps a bit of a gamble, but the Furuno connector looks rather like a 4 pin female microphone connector, ~£2 on ebay.
The 1621 nmea only needs 2 wires, so if the connector fits then no need to spend dollars!
 
I bought actual socket contacts (i.e. the parts that connect to wires in the assembly - probably easier to think of 'pins' then change gender) and soldered each individual socket to each wire then wrapped the whole thing in self-amalgamating tape. I'm only sorry I can't give you details of the sockets to buy but you could probably measure the pins in the unit then track something suitable through RS.

The required connector is, I'm fairly sure, female and 7 or 8 pole. I have one on my 1623 in order to interface with the Yeoman plotter. It's the same as the power/data cable for the Furuno GP32 etc. IIRC, although, obviously, the power wires aren't used, just the NMEA in/out.
There's still a UK Ebay seller if you wish to fork out ~£45.

A little thread resurrection....

I am going to fit a similar radar in the next few days... I wonder did you find a solution for the connector...?
