Nigel Tetly

Nigel Tetley kept his trimaran in Whitby for a while and I remember how I watched with admiration as he departed the harbour in a rising gale to attend a meeting in Holland for his post-naval work for an oil company.

I also remember the shock and sadness when I learned of his death and the nature of it, hanging from a tree in woods near Dover.

I had to google:

at the coroner's inquest, it was revealed that the body had been discovered clothed in lingerie and the hands were bound behind the back. The opinion offered by a pathologist suggested masochistic sexual activity. The coroner, noting there was no evidence that Tetley had deliberately taken his life, recorded an open verdict.

Worked briefly at Kelsalls in 1970 and thought I recalled seeing Tetly in his yellow Morgan and then there was the news of his death which I was sure happened whilst I was at the yard in the summer of 1970
