nigel mansell

He seemed to get a new one every year at the Southampton Boatshow and gave them a lot of free publicity so you are probably right.

Yup, amazing how grovellingly obsequious boat sales people are when they have to deal with a C list celebrity on TV albeit one with £3.5m
To be fair to the programme, at least it was'nt as sail boat biased as some previous shows of this type which hopefully reflects the fact that new power boats now outsell new sail boats in the UK

<hr width=100% size=1>

only ever seem stinky bias on the t.v.
i suppose nige will have paid the v.a.t in £3.5mil, & dont suppose u can charter it??
the weeks he`s not o/b.
atleast i own what i have, his sunseeker is proberbly leased via offshore company
i hate these sniviling/grovelling/set-up/sudo programmes

What a load of C*** thats the worst coverage of a boat show I've seen, nothing to interest anyone.
Nigel's new boat great but why spend 20mins of a program on it??

<hr width=100% size=1>

I agree as it was all rather "super/smashing/great" for me.....

However it was nice to see some boats on the telly

I did like the jet sprinting bit (was a bit as well, and the same clip several times)
Fancy me a go at that!!!!!!

Thought the fleece test was pants, he was in the booth for about 3 milliseconds.
(his hair was blown out of sync, think thats why he did not like it)

Nice blazer and slacks Nige...

Also would you really collect your new boat (however expensive) in a blazer and slacks with your wife in a nice dress and heels ....?

Or perhaps Mr and Mrs Mansell always dress like that when out on the boat or perhaps it was just a teeny bit staged ?

All good fun !

um, despite my ambivalence towards N mansell, the offshore lease will be perfectly legal and will minimise or elimnate VAT - and one can be fairkly sure that he has the loot - the leasing will only be for a nominal sum, perhaps 60% of the value of the boat. High taxes mean that it's worth doing this sort of thing when it involves 500k+ of VAT.

separatley i do believe that you can charter the boat, there's a skipper, which partly explains his slowwittedness regarding most aspects of the boat and boating durting the program. His general slowwittedness explains any other slowwittedness that he exhibits at othert times.

<hr width=100% size=1>

People who are less quickwitted than you can't help it, so why criticise, or are even you just a tinzty wintzy bit jealous/forums/images/icons/smile.gif.
If you look at wealth as a measure of success, I guess you can say he's successful in spite of the fact that he may not ( I have no idea) be very bright. He used what talents he has to get there. Same can be said for Beckham. But of course, the Brit envy and ridicule pour out toward anyone who is successful. What a shame.

<hr width=100% size=1>

i am no way envious of nige.
what get my goat is the fact that he + sunseeker seem to take over the SET-UP t.v.programme.
IF,IF, he gets the same or better satisfaction / enjoyment on arriving in foriegn port than me he`s doing well.
i dont have to & would not charter mine, i also steer her, maintain her,know every inch (25.4 m/m) of her

If I recall he mentioned moving his boat out to the Med for the early part of the year, then shifting on to the Carib then having it moved to the States (Everglades I think) where it will become available for charter for a couple of months and then back to the Med, I wonder if he'll skipper any part of the journey ??? also will the boat motor all this or will it be transported??

I wonder how much comission the salesman had?????

I definitly dont look at success and wealth as not being mutually exclusive, you can be successful without wealth and be wealthy without success.

As the case of F1 i have very little respect for the talents of people who have to be offered the right car to be able to compete succesfully, its the most rediculous, boring and overated sport ( and i use that in its loosest term) thats known to man! Rally drivers are 10 times the talent of any F1 driver and yet dont have the money to buy a huge sunseeker (Id like to think that if they did have the money that some of them might ac tually buy something with a bit of class)!

I think that programme, well the Nigel bits, is detrimental to the hobby of boating and makes it look over the top and elitest, its so bad for the boating worlds image to non boaters of average means.

There was a specific short period of time when Williams was easily the fastest F1 car, and mansell won races during that time and no other. Hence i don't subscribe to the myth of of his overarching and magnificent success. Moneywise, isn't it somewhat American to judge that "success" means "he's made a lot of money" as you seem to be doing?

You are not in touch (in the UK anyway) to rate Beckham in the same way: as far as i know there is widespread admiration of him and not much sniping at all. Perhaps brits are more demanding of heroes. The money thing is nothing to do with it, and varies from one sport or business activity to another.

That's a little unfair; I agree that the year he won the world championship he had by far the best car, but in his favour he would have won the '86 championship but for an unlucky tyre blowout. After the F1 title he also went on to win the '92 indycar championship straight out of the blocks, having never raced in it before.

Yes, he is a moaning and nasal-whiney git, and his driving owed more to bloody-mindedness and bruteforce than skill and finesse, but you have to give him a little credit.

cheers,
david

<hr width=100% size=1>Why'd he call me shortie?
Because you're small,...small,...S, M, all.

ok, a little unfair. The lack of flair etc demonstrated by aforementioned lack of success of any kind until after several years of race starts, not even leading a gp until well after 80+ starts and when he did he panicked.

I agree with all your comments about him being a moaning nasal-whiney git, which perhaps clouded my judgement. I will give a little credit for the fab overtaking in Hungary.
