Hi all, I will be sailing around the Ionian in late June and I have not been there for 7 years. Are the town quays still free and are ther any power hook ups. I will doing a round trip from Corfu to Fiskardo.
Thanks
RPP

This September we paid €5 for each of harbour dues, water and electricity at Mourtos, and nothing at Gaios (Paxos), but no electricity. In May 2007, we paid nothing at Kassopi (CFU), Kioni (Ithaca), and Vathi Ithaca), but no facilities either.

All still free, no power anywhere but Fiskardo on the small pontoon, where there are card operated water & power points, cards from the chandlers (good place).

You can however ask the local taverna, shop etc for some power for the night ?

Have fun.

At that time of year you will be lucky to get anywhere near the town quays!!! They start to fill up early afternoon with flotillas and charter boats.
Many places are still free or very cheap..exception which springs to mind is A.Euphemia..about 15 Euros/night IIRC but includes electricity&water.Elsewhere it varies, some places have plenty water, others seem to supply elec.if you eat at their taverna.
Much better to anchor off ,use the tender and get what you need when the harbours are quieter (late morning for instance)

i sail around this area all season and very rarely pay anywhere , the locals are pleased you are visiting it, helps the local economy . this year i paid once all summer in .ag efimia, 10e 1 night for a cat - alongside . come and enjoy all the beautiful anchorages , all free ! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

We were also charged for overnighting on Palairos town quay last time I was there /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif about 12 euro for a non greek boat if I remember right.

Wow!!! I thought Greece was suppose to be cheap, but on the website Davy_S links to sems to be 3 euros a meter a day...thats 36 euros a day!!!
What am i reading wrong?

Regards
Roy

The following actual charges were in Sept/Oct 08 with a 37 footer:

At Gaios (Paxos) town quay we paid 13 euros a night with no facilities but near the seaplane/ferry terminal it was free.
At Mourtos town quay we paid 17 euros + 5 for water and 5 for electricity but I think the marina is free if you can find a space.
Preveza town quay was free (inc water) for 8 nights except for the one night the port police came around (but they missed us).
Nidri was free but busy with no facilities.
Sivota was free but with no facilities.
Spartokhouri (various spellings) on Meganissi was free with water (in places).
Fiskardo was free (I am surprised to report) with water by payment card.
Lefkas marina was 24 euros a night (Oct).

Hope this helps.

Alan

Sadly, the little old "water-man" of Nidri town quay has hung up his trendy shades and has passed on the batten to some new youngster with a mobile and a bit more of a greek attitude to punctuality... So my advice, if you don't want to wait all morning on the quay for him to turn up, is to fill up at the Athos pontoon for €3, providing it isn't turnaround day!
We spent the whole of june and september 2008 in the One-Onion, and didn't pay once...
Incidentally: water is free in Samos & Poros, on Kephalonia... provided you've got the right hosepipe connector!!!

You are quite right it looks expensive! Local bar owners are not pleased at the prices advertised when Fiskardo is free (they rip you off for food and drink instead) also Sami is free. However the reality is that no-one gets charged this price, or at least not that I know of.

Greece mooring is still very cheap; excepting a couple of most recently built marinas where you could argue there's value for money. And Zea, near Athens, where you're paying for a central location and the big, posh boats around you. And Ayios Euphemia, which is just a rip off which has frightened many vistors away. However, at Ayios Euphemia they often don't bother to collect fees outside the main season.

In September this year we anchored out in the bay and made use of the (excellent) water taxi. No worries about dinghy into town, theft thereof... and the taxi man kept an eye on the boat.

...Ayios Euphemia, which is just a rip off which has frightened many vistors away...

Whilst not disputing Jim's (and other's) comments regarding mooring costs at Ay Euphemia; I would note that I was avoiding the quay even before I knew they charged. The late afternoon breeze really whips across the quay, so it can be an absolute pig to get onto; it is however good to watch /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif and the harbour is a good anchorage (holding's patchy, but the water's clear so look for a sandy bit before dropping) and there's some good/friendly bars & restaurants - don't avoid the place, instead just drop your hook and enjoy.

Is Parga still the same with a short mole, water tap the other side of the inlet and water taxis to the town?

Yes it was last year ..dunno about this year though as we have not been back since. The water tap there supplied very good drinking water and is an excellent place to fill up your tank.

Digressing slightly...Be warned however that Parga has a reputation for thieving from boats in the small harbour .I awoke one night to hear footsteps on the deck, and dashed up in time to catch a guy helping himself to the outboard.I started to chase him along the quay, but his mates appeared and I decided that the odds were not in my favour. A flot.skipper told me that he had used a boathook on one in the same place.

Digressing some more...Also worth a visit is Mitika...small town on the mainland SE of Lefkada, free mooring and good water(take own hose) You can get electricity there as well. Assos on the W side of Kephalonia is not on the flotilla run,and few charter boats go there as it has a reputation for having a nasty swell at times, however we have ben there several times and never had problems. It only has a small quay, few tie on points (use the lampost) and some big underwater rocks, but is probably the most drop dead gorgeous place in the area. Excellent restaurants esp the one on the road behind the shore, the owner has a farm on the island and grows what he serves in the restaurant(including the meat)
Frikes on Ithaka ..another very windy place, much frequented by flotillas...they tend to moor on the quay,so best to go alongside the harbour wall on the RHS. Do not under any circs.,go on the floating pontoon (if it's still there!) as you come in to the harbour...people get stuck there and can't get off. Take a walk up the hill from the village to the village of Stavros, about 20-30 mins walk and worth the effort. The restaurant there is one of the best in Greece..I think it's called Prometheus or something like that..well signposted as you get in the village,an open air walled garden place owned and run by a Swiss lady and her husband.Food to die for.
The small bay on the west of Ithaka, down the hill from Stavros ..Porto Polis is an excellent overnight anchorage.
Last time we were in Vathi Meganisi, they were installing electricity and water points along the waterfront..I don't know if they are working yet ...it is Greece....perhaps someone can confirm this.

As I'm sure you know,Rod Heikell's excellent pilot book covers the area very well, but things change all the time and much of his information should only be taken as a guide.

Have fun and let us all know how it goes...
