After an unfortunate and expensive brush with the Netherlands Customs I am looking for other UK registered boats that have been stopped and fined for having red diesel in their tanks
since 1st January 2007 please.
Similar experiences elsewhere in the EU are also interesting

Thanks

A lot of people have heard of your brush, so you are going to get a lot of negatives.

Be prepared for tabloid type headlines, and maybe prepare lots of facts

Well not all the nutters are in the asylum!
A good chance for a bit of EU bashing and xenophobia!
Been here for 20 years, so we are used to it now.

Just wondered if it was just a freak occurrence or an active programme.

Now you are free of the cloggies, was there any background to your problem? For example, VAT documentation problems have sometimes been the result of customs asking for the SSSI , not getting it, and then going to town. Or an unfortunate argument with a local official etc. Just wondering whether you inadvertently poked the wasp nest with a stick, so to speak.

As for others experiences my guess is that you have just been unlucky. I was wondering about French customs and my out of date flares etc - everybody on the forum said "no problem" yet in an RYA mag there is a report of a British yottie being fined for just that.

You can prolly answer one question that people have asked. Did you have a receipt for the red you bought in the UK, or did they fine you because you have lost it?

I have posted this on R2R,but I have just returned from 2 weeks in S Netherlands & asked Brits & Dutchmen if they had been asked about red diesel or knew anyone who had.All replies were negative. The Dutch were amazed that anyone would be fined by customs for having red.I did have a receipt by the way.We saw the customs rib when we were going into Vlissingen & he was asking the odd boat if they had anything to declare.Perhaps the boat that was fined was a one off.

Perhaps it was. I think that's exactly what gwylan is trying to establish. HAS anyone else been a victim?

Nope, all our papers are in order, just minding my own business and obeying the traffic regs, lights on and all that good stuff. No I think they knew they were on a winner as soon as they saw the ensign

No! That probably did not help - we had had a crew settle up on arrival 2 weeks before and then cleared everything out. But I can now prove that I bought diesel in Brighton on the day I said. It's all in the log, but they were not interested in that at all

you will appreciate that after the 2037 (or so) posts regarding this on here in the last 4 weeks the conclusion many have come too is 'bizarre' rather than 'they were on to a winner'. RYA and press comment seemed to impy the same.

presume you are in the process of recovering your fine - is this complete yet?

If not, I am free in August to lead a military invasion. I just need 2,000 men, a big bag of weed - to give out to opposing troops - and a splendid uniform to wear.

Well, we have to wait for the official letter from the Customs Service - then we can appeal. In the mean-time they have my money!
Nice work if you can get it!

Nobody there in August they've all cleared off with their caravans and sack of potatoes to clog up France.
Could sneak in and they wouldn't know anything until September
You can design your own uniform - I'm trying to find the A team on Google for you!
