Great thread - and reminded me of the horrors waiting for us in the Itchenor area....had a few rows with the dinghy sailors when we were berthed in Chi Marina before, and no doubt more to come......

You could try sitting closely behind the last boat on left side of river - follow him across to the right hand side, and when he tacks open the throttle.
He has to sail 2 sides of a triangle while you have only to drive 1 side, and you have some boatspeed to start with.
