Next yacht - ideas please

Am seeking input and suggestions on best options for out next yacht!
Currently a Southerly 105 (early deck saloon), which has various plus and neg points:
+ Very light and spacious inside, great visibility, inside 2nd steering postion, very dry boat, roomy heads/shower full headroom except rear cabin (i'm 6'2") Lifting keel and 2nd steering pos. useful rather than essential (crusing W Scotland)

- sailing performance is not great; high freeboard/ windage, tricky to handle under power (big 2 blade)

Seeking a newer yacht (1995 -2003 ish) up to 38 ft that has most of + and removes the - factors.

from Bavaria to Malo, views please.

a Claymore 30 ... from what i've seen, nobody in w scotland goes to windward so its shortcomings in that regard don't count and what you'll save (espec over cost of the vancouver £250k new??) you can purchase a villa in spain (+ yoghourt pot, too in all likelihood) to get a sun tan. v manoeuverable with prop kick like a mule and a lot of fun ..

i'm serious. i couldn't think of a better all-round boat for west coast

Suggest that you list the most important points of your present boat, and then this will enable you to narrow down the list of contenders
For example I should imagine that the shallow draft, headroom, and good visibility are very high on your list of wants. Have a good look at a Prout Snowgoose Elite with twin engines. If you can find one with a solid roof over the wheel, that would be best, but you can still get one made.

A quality boat
Bigger - 38-40' for longer periods on board but not too big for small harbours.
Weather protection whilst helming. Who enjoys getting cold or wet?
Large auxiliary motor.
Liveable space

Amel Sharki
HR 382 or 352
Ben Evasion 37
Moody 40-42
Fisher 37 ?? (expensive)
Jouët 1040 MS

high freeboard /windage???? gonna be a bit difficult to get the headroom for you at 6ft2 without..

Fisher a bit too trawler-ish and towards motor sailers (not in SAGA yet!)
Also re sailing performance, bit like or worse than southerly?

A Maxi 1200 would cover most of your requirements except the lifting keel bit, though I think she comes with the option of a shallow bulbed one.

Have a look at 'flat deck' HR, Najad and Contest, they all have models around your length and, I'm told there are a 'lot' to be seen in the Western Isles during the summer. A Bowman 40 would also be on my list. I really do not understand the need for a lifting keel on west coast of Scotland ... but maybe you sail where I haven't ..... and maybe should.
