Well at last I am booked onto the the next shipment across the pond to Majorca, I know there are a few of you on here that frequent the area. Any useful info on the area i.e. best bars, where to go/not to go etc etc. Been there twice before but was working hard and didn't get out much.
Maybe exchange a few drinks when i get there?

The big boats tend to loiter around in Club de Mar, which is ok with friendly bar in season. A space in Portals is much desired, but will cost praps £500 a night in high season and no need - anchor just outside and still protected. Nice bars and so on in Portals, nicest balance of decent food and luntic prices is probably Bismark right at the far end.

In Palma you need scooter or bike or similar transport for quick zips to the old town imho. No real need for a car as guests etc are v close by taxi and it can be a pain parking and driving in high season.

With big motery boat, perahps introduce yourself to David Hanrathes, young chap speaks about 6 languages and runs Rodriguez Spain based in Portals, v keen boaty person and will be familiar with the calls needed to get bigboat stuff sorted out, very much worth inviting him aboard for a drink at an early stage i reckon.

There is excellent assistance from expat brits from outfits such as Rolling Stock who are a mobile chandlery, to engine people and wassisname ohdarnit can't remeber (Peter?) who runs the local Interlube franchise was v helpful. Anyway, a load faster to get things done in Palma that praps anywhere else in the W med - even tho special parts have to come from the mainland of course.

imho, from the sea, it is obvious why majorca is so popular, and it is only overdeveloped in certain areas. The SE tip is nice, big protected anchorage at Es Trenc with blue water. The prevailies are from Golfe de lion hence south side much more protected, but Soller on the N side is a step back in time.

Lovely island if you hire a car and tour around. Fantastic mountains and lovely inland villages. Deja a must place to visit. If you need a car use www.hispacar.com they use Centauro car hire but online price cheaper than centauro themselves. Brand new cars and will not get a better deal on the island.

Palma itself is an attractive city. Go to the old town area for bars and restaurants. Take a taxi 'coz parking is a nightmare. There are clubs on the main drag along the seafront but I could'nt recommend any because I'm far too old to go into them. Avoid Magaluf, Palma Nova and Arenal 'coz they're full of Brits who watch Coronation St and wear football shirts on holiday. If you've got time on your hands, hire a car or motorbike and drive the spectacular mountain roads along the western coast of the island
Boating wise there are good anchorages all round the island apart from the western side (except Soller). A characteristic of the Balearics are the numerous indentations in the coastline known as calas which make excellent anchorages. Just pick any one which gives shelter on that particular day. Its a great boating area. Just enjoy

Not going on her own bottom simply because we've had such a huge refit that we're bound to get some teething problems. The owner wanted me to do it but I wasn't prepared to.

She is 111ft, if we can get a mooring for a decent price we'll stay the whole season and use it as a base for charters.
