Hi All...
Having lifted my head above the parapet briefly following a longish lurk, I thought I’d better introduce myself more formally:

Returning to sailing following a 15 year break, I have recently purchased an old but young at heart Galion 22 (sail number 35), she is in the yard at North Fambridge Yacht Station and we are travelling most weekends to do what we can before the days draw in and the temperature drops. We is me (Russ) and my good lady (Christine).

Most of my previous sailing was in cruiser racers on the South Coast with the RAF and then a foray with the Squib Fleet on Rutland Water. This is my first venture into ownership.

It’s really good to make contact, see you all on the water next season, or if you see us in the Yard (we’re right by the gate) then please stop for a chat...

Regards
Boz (it’s a long story)

Hi Russ, good to hear from yet another from South Linc's, I'm just outside Spalding and Neil is in Mkt Deeping so you're in (sort of) good company :D
I'm also ex RAF having left in 85, suppose Linc's being the way it is that isn't much of a coincidence though
Welcome to the home of relaxation, we don't do punch up type stuff in here. Are you anywhere near either of us ?
Think there are one or two at Fambridge here too

Ah, Galion 22, my favourite pocket cruiser.
5' 9" headroom, and sails brilliantly in most weathers.
Ian Hannay design, the boat did well in the RTIR in 1968.

You have a real pedigree boat there..

Its my choice when I get too old for Full Circle.

Look out for Naomi II when you go through Burnham, she is immaculate.

That puts you about fifteen minutes away from me and about the same from Mat (BastonJock), and maybe twenty minutes from Neil, and there are a few others in the area too. I feel another meeting coming on soon, probably after most have finished their sailing season so mid winter. Neil will probably see this thread and with luck we can organise a get together somewhere close by. Mkt Deeping has a handy watering hole where we met Neil the first time so we may well have to sink one or two jars locally soon. Fancy that ?

Yes... Hannay's design puts the pulpit inside the forestay, apparent to allow a deck sweeping foresail to be closehauled without the pulpit spoiling the shape. The boom is also very low, keeping the centre of effort low.

Hannay sailed his prototype to victory in the '68 RTIR, remarkable for 6.7mtrs. I'm afraid I won't be able to replace the sails this year but it will be interesting to see how she performs like for like..

Fosdyke for now but plans are always changing here, specially with the help of some on here. We'll have to wait and see if Neil has time to organise it but I think we could get a few together for a quiet (yeh right :D ) pint one evening. If he hasn't got time I'll see what can be organised this end, but as far as I know there aren't many half decent places either in Spalding or Bourne for a meet. Do you know of anywhere I don't ?

Sounds like a plan!

Leave it with me.....

:)

ps: good choice with Fambridge.... Lovely friendly marina

I sort of discovered Fambridge by accident (That's where the boat was located).... you're right though very friendly and very helpful ... I've even joined N. Fambridge Y.C.

A Sth. Lincs Social sounds ideal ... looking forward to it, can't really help with a location, I tend to go North as I used to work out of Sleaford:)

Regards
Russ

After a very enjoyable evening with Neil and Deb's I think it's confirmed that Deeping is likely to be the best location and it's over to Neil to organise something, Friday or Saturday night would be best for us but if anyone has any other days they prefer, speak up and we'll see what most people prefer. Talking about out of season so no sailing need be messed with :D

George, you never mentioned you were from Sleeping Deeping ;)

Thinking maybe Deeping is close enough even for those from Bostonia and possibly even Sleaford and March to make the trip ?
Maybe even Lincoln  who knows ;)

Over to you Neil, don't forget though :D

I believe that full circle and I looked at your fine craft some weeks ago while walking back to the pontoon from the pub. Red hulled Gallion just by the gate near the loo.

We are based on a swinging mooring there although Artemis is out of the water in the Marina while we sun ourselves in Cyprus.

We will say hello if we see you around.

Hi Neville & Janey

The red hulled Galion is actually owned by a guy called Sean, we recently enjoyed a day of Hull preparation together. Our boat is now opposit the red Galion by the gate, she has a blue hull but is looking a little forlorn at the moment. Slow but sure is the way, and we are hoping to put her in the water next April.

We are often around the Marina side, if only to use the Club for a pint or a cuppa, look out for the black Passat estate.

Boz, is yours loo on the left, or under the bed?

The Loo was under the V berth in the fore cabin, but the seacocks were rotten and the bowl damaged. I've removed it and will probable go Porta Potti next year. The loo under the chart table must have been a little 'Exposed'?

There are some plans available on the Galion Owners website and some pictures. (a quick google)

http://www.galion22.co.uk/

The red hulled boat, her name escapes me, is one of the later models with the pulpit forward of the forestay.

Regards
Boz (Russ)
