Our experience of NY eve has been gathering with friends (avoiding famille after Xmas) in familiar pubs. Except that it's the night the landlord tops up his profits so he's been flogging tickets by the thou. Arrive said evening to leave within hour - it's too crowded to stand. Bugger the glass of 'champagne' your 25 quids bought you in 3 hours time - we're getting out of here. Home, take the glad rags off, and into our sloppy gear. Couple of drinks and call up some distant friends. Chat about us for a while. Laugh about this year and make vague plans for next. Early night, lovely to be together, night night.

Sound familiar?

Re: New Years Eve - Who Dares Grins 2

So last year we thought we'd do something different.

We phoned around to find that every yacht club was booked in Cowes (tickets only). Also Folly Inn. But when I explained we'd be sailing Folly told us no problem, we'll fit you in.

On the way in we stopped at West Cowes. I think we were the only visitors and we had a great evening. Eventually (after a couple of pins in the Anchor) retired on board, ate our stew and opened a bottle of champagne.

We had the time of our lives and wonder if anyone else is up for it this year?

Regards
Tome
