One of the valves on our 30yr old Avon Redseal has started to leak, so the tube deflates overnight, and we've been told that these valves can be replaced. Is this an easy job and if so where can these valves be bought, otherwise is there anyone in the Southampton/Portsmouth area who services old Avons and could replace the valves for us?

Thanks,

Heather

Had same problem with my inherited Avon. Had just read about an owner freeing his up with brake fluid. I solved my prob by using Fairy liquid, pouring some in and opening and closing the valve with the prodding tool! Took a few goes but valve was eventually ok. I found that the 'stopper plug' acted as a good second line of defence, have you still got the plugs as I hear that they are quite rare?
If you have no joy then I read an article about replacing the valves. I guess that this was in PBO and probably a few months back. On reflection brake fluid is maybee better than Fairy liquid, it should not affect rubber as it doesnt spoil servo rubbers and possibly the Fairy liquid will gum things up a bit when it dries (although I did rinse with fresh water)
Have bought one of those rapid 12 volt pump/deflators they are good especially on deflation as the boat packs away much smaller and more quickly than before.

There's a place in Exeter that services them and gets spares, called Vulcan marine - tel 01392 279292 or 272896.
