I am quite young as it happens, not quite as young as you but I wouldn't mind being at the age of starting secondary school as opposed to leaving it this year /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I have a brother who is twelve if that helps, he says he is more than happy to accompany you on a boat trip as long as his most favouritest brother can come along too /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
You know, cant let him out on his own and all that /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
In 2005 I had the youngest crew member aboard, when Lazy Days crossed the Channel Ramsgate to Dunkirk she was 7 months old and was not a bit of trouble. As the afternoons were very busy with visitors she found it difficult to have her afternoon nap 'so did I' while running the engines to charge up we both fell fast asleep so thats what we did every time it wa nap time.
This summer I had my two nephews aboard in Holland for a week,as my only crew one 10 the other 14 years old. both learnt very quickly how to steer, navigate both with a chart and GPS/lap top, there roping skills were applauded in the Goes lock both hooked on first throw.
The spare man worked as ships spotter which they thought was great with all bthe different types of boats and ships seen in Holland, they both have a great collection of photos of them all.
They also had a great time ashore exploring the towns of Middleburg, Goes and Yerseke.
I hope you enjoy boating in the years to come and take a keen interest in all the different aspects of it. We are incouraging the younger members of the Dunkirk Little Ships to take an active roll with the boats, so they can take over and keep the old girls running and afloat for the next in my boats case 77 years.

Hello and welcome Kibou_Crew, it sounds as though you are having great fun on the boat with your 'old' Dad.
I started sailing more than 50 years ago when I was 9, two years younger than you, and have been messing about in boats and ships of all sizes since then. I still really enjoy it and we look forward to taking our boat out either by ourselves or with the family when they home come to visit us.
Please ask any questions you like here (but I am sure Dad already knows most of the answers).
Although I am a relative newcomer to this forum I have found everyone to be very friendly and helpful.
Enjoy your boating and let us hope that next year the weather will be better.
