Been following the development of this little jobbie for over a year now and she has just been launched.

Only 42 feet but a whopping amount of space inside, semi displacement so for all those that would love a Nordhavn but can't handle the plodder speed she will crack 17 knts. Single Cummins 500 hp and but uses the new BAT drive get you home system instead of a wing engine. Top drawer build quality and big range at displacement speed.

A 52 and 62 on the drawing board 52 for end of next year followed by 62.

Thoughts are would be quite a boat in current economic climes with its fuel efficiency yet a bit of speed when needed and ocean crossing abilty.

And no I am not the dealer (mores the pity) and no prospect of it coming this way for a while anyway. Wonder if there is anything around at the moment that could compete, can't think of anything really that has that trawlery look and massive construction yet a bit of zip.

Looks great. 17knots, cummins engine, sounds very familiar /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It does look very Nordhavn-alike. Is it stabilised or does it rely on the dynamic lift to get stability? Its quite tall in that respect. Room to fit a gyro?

Tell me more about the BAT drive?

Bayview Auxiliary Tug Drive

The BAT Drive is a hydraulic motor connected to the shaft by a belt and driven off a generators or other power source.
 
Yep stabilised, gyro thingy the lot.

Allows for really super quiet motoring as you are only using your genny but max's out about 5 knts but for putt putting along bob on, at night when passage making and not worried about speed flick it on and everyone gets to sleep without the droning of the main engine, clever eh? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Nordhavn are doing it too I believe.

I love NordHavn's but couldn't be going everywhere at 7 knys. This looks like my idea of a seriuos cruising boat. Which probably means I will never afford one /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
 
Bout half a mill which I think is quite reasonable considering the level of build, think they may have found a niche in the market that was wide open for someone to do something such as this, means you can do cross channel in reasonable time or when time allows do the big adventure thing. with cheap CI fuel you could fill there twice a year and still do a 100 or so hours pottering and the odd blast about.
 
I was mildly interested until you mentioned the price. For half a mill you can get a Beneteau ST52 trawler yacht. Maybe not quite in the same quality league but loads bigger, 2 x 575hp engines and 23 knots. Then at starting price of £650k, you can look at the Marlow 57 which is way way bigger and probably even better built
If you'd said £350-400k, then would have been about right especially if it's built in $ denominated Taiwan
What is it btw?
 
No it can't be a true trawler yacht, just looks similar but hull completely different. Would be interesting to see how it handles rougher weather.

Having said all that it does look rather smart.

Think about that, it doesn't take rocket science to build a trawler looking boat with a SD hull capable of 17 or also 20kts. Any big builder could make a boat like that in no time.
But as a matter of fact, all researches show that the potential market for these boats is even smaller than the real trawlers niche - which is indeed already small (though both are seen as growing).
 
Take your point Mike but a Nordhavn is going to cost you the guts of 1/2 mill anyway. She is built in the US and in small numbers but battleship quality, takes about four months to build each one and that costs dosh unfortunately.

Not been on one yet but the sea trials to date I believe have been in some scary pants stuff off Alaskan coast ( I mean like real scary !) and Pacific. This is a different league to the Benny good as it is its not really ocean going league stuff.

Pays your money takes your choice I suppose. I guess it aimed more at the hardened long distance cruisery bod but wouldn't mind a bit of a move on when needed.
 
Nordhavn built in the US? Since when?
They use yards in the people republic and in taiwan, afaik.
 
Oops. In this case I guess that by "battleship quality" you also meant this boat?
Frankly, even if judging by a few pics is obviously hard, she's far from giving such impression.
