JFM has been playing this game for years with his Laser dinghy.

In the past, there has been lots of interest in a group of us in Sant Carles owning sailing dinghies.
Maybe even forming a club for competitive racing.
The big problem is storage.
We were thinking of something like a small Wayfarer.
I even thought of taking my old Hurricane out to Spain
All these dinghies require proper shore side storage and slipways/beaches etc.
Not really convenient

But earlier this year a yachtie friend showed me his Dinghy Go - an inflatable sailing dinghy that we can all sail in the sun.

I met up with SammyB and her husband last week and we both decided to go for it and order a couple.
So, with ours and a couple of others in Sant Carles, we have started a small group.
I'm sure that others will join in.

The great thing about the Dinghy Go is that it folds away and can be stored in a large locker.
I'm sure we have space in our bike shed (crews quarters)

I'm at home at the moment but ours arrived last week - here are some pics that were sent to me:-

Like Henry Fords cars, you can have any colour as long as it is red.

Actually, they could be great fun and easy to take away on cruises away from home.
 
Very nice Mike - I like that. Amazing they have got it so light - the spec says 30kg for the hull, 15kg for the sail/rig, and I suppose the rudder/daggerboard are on top but still that is a very easy to handle toy imho. I hope you have a lot of fun with it, and start a st Carles DG League in the lagoon!
I love the idea of a sailing boat as a tender - I wouldn't be without it and if building another boat would definitely do it again. I only use mine say 6 times/year and it's a 20 minute mission to rig and unrig it but it is completely worth it
 
Their pics on the website show red and blue versions. Or is the blue one a different dinghy?

You'll soon need a bigger boat to store all the toys............:encouragement:

Yes, I had one as a kid, with sailing rig, it just didn't work! Rigging was stretchy rope attached to the tubes, mast all over the place. Nil Points.

This look much better.
 
Are there any kits that can be bought to convert an existing Sib having just bought one Dooh

Yep - on both accounts.
We have ordered a couple of Optimist carbon fiber tiller extensions

SammyB has one of those Torquido electric outboards which should work well.
I'll wait and see how theirs work.
If I'm not careful, this little Dinghy Go could "take over" from the Novurania.
Actually, I can think of a case where it might - at anchor with the Novurania stowed on the FB - it might be easier to launch the Dinghy Go to go to the shops that the Novurania - Hmmmm

Not looked at it right close up yet but the I believe that the centre board is a crucial part of the kit.
Apparently it slides into a pocket that connects to the seat - a dagger board then slides in.
I understand that it is made watertight with a velcro "rollup" like a "dry bag" for when you don't need the centre board - if you know what I mean.
Clever design
So there won't be a kit.

Not sure about the blue colour.
But there are two packages on offer - the more expensive one is the one you want - maybe those are all red.
The more expensive one comes with a lifting rudder - thats not the important bit - it also comes with a short mast extension.
Without the taller mast, an adult wouldn't get under the boom - well - a fat git like me wouldn't anyway.

Storage on JW
Remember we cleared out the Walker Bay and Jetski to make space for the Novurania.
We now have our bathing platform back as a "bathing platform"
Crews quarters is still relatively free.
I think we can accommodate this toy - and a few more yet.
In fact, a friend gave SWMBO an inflatable kayak a couple of months ago - we haven't tried it yet - not my style - no engine.

I quite fancy an inflatable swimming pool - there are reports of a few jellyfish around at the moment.
A pool would make swimming safer - but I'm not sure that it is all that important - only a passing fancy.
On the other hand, this little Dinghy Go could be quite a lot of fun.
 
I was looking at those at the beginning of the season. Please let me know how you get on with it. I was hoping to be able to use it on the river lagoon at Conwy which is relatively calm, when the sea was not conducive to going out on the Mobo. However returning to the mooring on the estuary conditions change and we experience strong currents of average 4-5knts and I am concerned that may prove too much for it. I'd be grateful if you let me know if you think it will handle that kind of environment once you've had a bit of experience on it.
 
The great thing with these dinghies is that they appeal to lots of different boat owners.
The idea/concept works for Yachties and motorboaters.
Storage is relatively easy - yachties could use them as tenders - like my friend in Sant Carles.
Motor boaters generally have better storage for that kind of thing but even then the Dingy Go can double as a tender.

I was impressed with the way the Dinghy Go handled under sail.
Tacks easier than most dinghies I've sailed.
Due to good positioning of the centre board, it spins on a sixpence.

Yet to see how well it rows or motors.
I'm sure we will get more reports on this great little dinghy.
