Finally completed on purchase of new to me boat. Sold my old trusted Prestige 36 and upgraded to a Manhattan 50. Much more space for grandparents to come and look after kids in the evening! :)

Just waiting for shipping to bring her back to Solent from Malta.

It's been a bit of an emotional journey all the highs and lows of buying aboard but can relax now and enjoy. Recent threads on the what's the best used 50 footer and choosing boat names has been really helpful.

If I've done this right there should be some pics.

Can anyone tell me is there really any more of a difficulty in getting a visitors berth for a 50ft in the solent peak times??

I know on previous posts that it's been mentioned the manhattan 50 seems to be a heavier boat than equivalent sealine/fairline/princess, what's this due to?

Its due to several reasons - its a big Boat ,SS often undername size wise .But mostly it's down to what you or anybody else at a viewing / boat show can,t see -that's the build ,layup -they stick to a traditional labour intensive hull construction .
Some rival competitors use more wieght saving techniques ,like foam ,more balsa cores , drop in linners as posed to thick heavey marine ply bulkheads ,separating walls ,seat bases all glassed in etc .It all adds weight .
When you spend a bit of time on it and had a poke around and compared it with others you will be glad you picked it .
It's when your go touring and end up moored next to others of similiar size ,look at there deck fittings , windows , hand rails . Cupboard doors , and dare I say it exposed screws in the rubbing rail -:)
Which engines C12 or D 12 Or MAN 800 ?

Lovely boat, congratulations, hope the import etc all run nice and smoothly for you.

As long as you do a bit of planning on where you want to get into and work with the marinas on booking ahead etc, you should be fine with regard to temporary berths. Yes I'm sure some times they will be full up but then they might be full up if you were 37'. If it's one of the mega weekends then consider getting there half a day before everybody else, or being in there ready for someone to vacate. Plan ahead and I don't think you'll have much of an issue.

100% agreement, but the Fairline, Princess defence league will never see the light.:D

She's got the Volvo D12-800's, We got 29 knots on sea trial in with a dirty bottom and in a force 5

Going to be thirsty but that means your having fun!
 
I hope PS now have some suitable berths last year when I upgraded there was nothing suitable in the 13-16m range only on the inside of inside waiting pontoon and thus miles from the facilities and restaurants etc. We are now at Gosport. Lovely boat hope to see you out and about, I think you like me were also on H with your previous boat.

Yes I was on H pontoon, very friendly it was. Larger berths are still a bit limited but I'll be happy anywhere there just to get boating again.
 
We live in PS, so we're berthed on one of the resident's pontoons on the other side. We've only a modest Jeaneau 705, but can often be found pootling around the marina sprawled across our dingy during the summer months.

Incidentally, Premier are currently upgrading one of the pontoons (N I think) at the Harvester end to accommodate longer boats. You've also got the hammer heads, but most seem to be on long term retention.
