I'm just on the point of ordering a new Princess 67 for July 2005 delivery and need to consider options for a new tender. At the moment I have a Zodiac Fastroller 285 Mercury 5HP 2-stroke which is fine for light duties carrying 4 people at a squeeze. I'll certainly need something bigger and more stable and with this in mind I'm looking at anything that will fit the following criteria :-

1 - RIB construction.
2 - Max OAL 3.8m, prefer 3.6m.
3 - Fast - as close to 45mph (Avon Jet RIB) as possible.
4 - Capacity for 4/5 adults on seating.
5 - Room for my legs at the helm - I'm 6ft6in.
5 - Looks good!

I've been reading the Avon Jet Rib thread with interest and had the opportunity to try one at the weekend. Pros are lots of room for my legs and great fun. Cons are no neutral and poor low speed control, and that may cause problems when the tide is running. The DL version also looks very cramped at the helm, as do other Avon/Zodiac models, but I haven't actually sat in one yet.

Jockey seats give lots of space but I can't find a RIB this small that has one. Preference for outboards is Mercury. Apart from that I'll consider anything that fits my criteria.

Hi. Avon do a 3.6 and a 4.00 m version. More room and choose which engine power you want.

Is the 67 a new model, not sure what tender carrying details are??

There is a 4m something avon jetrib, but maybe too big?

Praps get a Squad66 instead. Then you can have a slower outboard rib tender AND a jetbike (in garage) for when you want fast fun. No need to compromise then. Ditto Azimut 68.

Yes the 67 is a new model to be launched at Southampton, but I have seen her several times and had a sea trial. The rear section of the flybridge is 4m wide hence my max OAL when taking into account retaining straps.

Squadron 66 looks good, or at least the drawings do, but won't be viewable for another 12 months. Azimut 68 is nice but more expensive.

If youre spending that sort of money you really need a personal shopper to look after such details for you.

OK, thanks for info. Which hull# are you buying? A rule of thumb would be not less than 4. (Sorry, thread drifting to your new mothership rather than the tender!)

jfm - It's hull number 21, but I believe they started at 10.

adarcy - I did indeed say that and since April I have covered 750 miles and 72 engine hours. Also spent 4 days out of every 14 onboard. Took out a Princess 61 a month or so ago and was surprised at how easy she was too handle. Certainly much more momentum, but very controllable. If I do sign on the dotted line I'll get a few days of extra tuition to ensure we are as well prepared as possible. Need to find a bigger berth too.
