I was Down in Poole the other week and spot the new sunseeker 80 sport yacht and took some photos of it.

Im sure its beautifully engineered and luxurious but it looks ugly.

Needs a black/blue coloured hull to hide the horrible lines of those windows.
 
looks like 2 designers have been drafted in, one to design the hull, the other to design the topsides... then they have been stuck together. Just doesn't flow does it..

One with a can opener.......guess which one.
 
Thanks for the pics. I'm struggling with the philosophy. It's a flybridge and looks like one with that GRP height above the saloon side windows. I mean, it has lost the sleekness of the pred. Yet the flybridge is short, because the lower helm windscreen is kept aft and steeply raked. So I just can't see why it doesn't make more sense then to get a proper flybridge like the very smart Y80
 
You'll get your moneys worth out of the cub scouts when they clean your windscreen during bob a job week.

Do they still have such a thing? Bob a job week, not windscreens !

I'm not familiar with the materials or construction methods used to create these large hull windows but at what point is the hull integrity & rigidity compromised by the size of the cut out section?

MD, JFM gave quite a good explaination on his Sq78 thread. The windows are bonded in, so there should be no issues with integrity.
 
Yup, glass isn't the brittle stuff it used to be, so the glass panels bonded in restore the strength and stiffness that the huge hole made. Same with cars eg look at those little peugeots with a huge sheet of compound curved glass for the roof. (BTW, I'm not aware of any production boats made using compound curved glass, they all use flat sheet that is then bent, so that is something of a flaw in the argument)

Note also that the big black zig zag on the sunseeker hull side is not all glass window. The window surface area is much smaller. For about 2/3 of the area of that black zig zag what you have is black glass is bonded onto the GRP hull without the GRP being cut away,
 
Hmm, , 44 knots that's exciting in this market segment .
The more modals ( subject to financing the tooling ) you can push out - the more sales you will make .-simply attracting the buyer ,stopping them going in search of " it"-a new boat - elsewhere

Walk into any BMW or Merc showroom ,there is a modal increment for every taste, function, and pocket ( well almost)

I am sure the architects did their sums correctly, but i does look like it would break in half when in any sort of sea. It certainly doesn't look good IMHO.

Me neither. Big sports coupe boats have been sprouting stunted little flybridges recently and this just takes that a step further. Basically the 80 Sport is a flybridge boat with an undersized flybridge and it's been clouted with the ugly stick too so I'm not sure why anyone would buy it instead of a proper flybridge boat
