New Sunseeker 80 Sport Yacht

Me neither. Big sports coupe boats have been sprouting stunted little flybridges recently and this just takes that a step further. Basically the 80 Sport is a flybridge boat with an undersized flybridge and it's been clouted with the ugly stick too so I'm not sure why anyone would buy it instead of a proper flybridge boat
Cos its sporty @ 44 knots with a 100ft rooster tail .
The old Pred 82 could be speced with tripple Aresons .speed obviously sells and the punters ( Mr Wong and Co ) want a sport bridge cum fly ,so here it is .
Old farts can have a sensible Y80 ish cruise @ 24 knots max 32 if they wish .

Ah so, the Sport 80 is a Chinese takeaway special and it only needs half a flybridge because Chinese people are so small. Come to think of it, the exterior does look as if it was designed by the same bloke who did my local Chinese restaurant. Has it got flock wallpaper inside with swirly dragon motifs? Is there a spring roll dispenser in the galley and a custom built cabinet for storing chopsticks? When you open the door, does a female voice shout at you 'do you wan flied lice with that mister?":)

That would be a design feature be copied off Ferreti ? ( 12/12 head start)
Have Ferreti started a recall campaign to retrofit the wall paper Mike :rolleyes:.

Nah, don't mix the sacred with the profane.
For us proper old farts, the boat of choice is obviously the trawler, with its one-figure cruising speed.
Otoh, those who think that HELMING an 80' boat at 44 knots in a F4 max (because in anything above that it falls apart) can qualify as "sporty", obviously don't have a clue about what DRIVING a real sportboat is all about... :D

The Chinese have already admitted they cocked up buying Ferretti. Not only can't they pronounce the name but they thought they were buying a company making flash red sports cars rather than useless lumps of floating plastic:)

Some of these predator sports bridges look odd. It should look like a normal pred but with a small flybidge to drive her in the open. Pred 84 looks good but the whole sportsbridge doesnt do the lines of a normal pred any favours. If you want a big flybridge dont you just buy a yacht? Skipper friend of mine says they hardly drive from teh sportfly on a smaller pred as there is no bimini and they get sun burn too often!

re #22 . Ok could you squeeze anymore stereotypes into this ? I think you are now on some list come the final phase of Chinese world dominance :D

Reality check - looks like "locals" (usual SS Med -customer profile ) are snapping up the first Big un

This arrived from SS France just now

"We are pleased to confirm that the first two Sunseeker 101 Sport Yachts on order will both be delivered to the South of France. Hull No.1 has completed the initial stage of production and has been removed from her mould at the Sunseeker International facility based in Portland Dorset UK, in preparation for the fittng of all the internal bulkheads and engine mounts.

Promising to be one of the most progressive Sunseekers built in recent times and featuring a black hull and distinctive interior, no less than 300 bespoke changes have been added to the standard specification of the first 101 Sport Yacht by her discerning and existing Sunseeker owner. She is due for launch in May 2014, with hull No.2 following shortly afterwards. This exciting new model exudes all the trademarks of a Sport Yacht, and further enforces Sunseeker’s ambition and progression in the luxury performance yacht market.

Really, Riva have been doing models like this for years so not at all progressive IMHO.

Piont is dispite all the jesting re far East buyers above, it appears the first 2x 101's are to delivered in the SOF .
Re black curvaceous glass on dark hulls Riva have been indeed building similar style boats at 68 and 86 ,
But not 101' or the current 115 or 130 " sport yachts"
The " sport "bit as I have tried to elude relates to the speed of the thing - and like most sporty things eg cars less practicle compared to standard format.
I have lost count of how many people ask me when I pull up in my ferrari ,how much does it do to the gallon ,?bet those tyres cost a lot , ? Can you see out of back? etc, etc,
They have a 3 Y waiting list ,Ferrari that is

Put it next to a Pershing 74 or 82 and you'll see the difference between design and "design"....... The 80 Predator will maybe look ok with a dark hull, but the Sport Yacht version really don't work. And it's not just the hull windows, the entire profile styling is out of order. The old Predator 74 and to a certain degree the Predator 84 was much better looking with a "sport bridge".

Oh dear, those hull windows are in tension with the whole design. Not a classic in the making, IMHO.

I've always hated hull windows, I see the benefit they give but they usually look awful. (no offence to anyone that's got them, it's in the eye of the beholder).

However, I was in the Med a few weeks ago (Menton) and saw that some builders have begun to integrate them well. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos. The yachts were large though. If the hull was light, they would put a dolphin window type shape on it and within that they would put a dark tinted hull window. On some of the other hulls, the colour of the hull and the window tint was very close.

The SS ones in the photos here look like an ugly gash; a mistake (IMHO). Apart from that, it looks lovely; very muscular, yet sleek

HOW DARE YOU, there is nothing wrong with Ferretti's. Everyone has they own likes and dislikes on builders....

I agree some of the large hull windows are plain ugly. They where ok when it was three large vertical windows for the owners midships stateroom see old Azimut 55, and may be a bigger port hole for the VIP but now its getting stupid.

Last thing with all the flexing in the structure I wonder how those will hold up over some years. And I mean Some.
