launching a new boat soon with VP D4 300 sterndrives. Wondering if its worth applying antifoul to new sterndrives pre launch. Any thoughts/experiences appreciated

I use propshield & find it far better than trilux, which was applied to my 1st new boat by the dealer. Also, the longer you use propshield, the better it works, in my experience anyway.

Sorry but I disagree, tried it for several years and found it worse than other types of sterndrive anti-foulings. Also a real pain to apply, but that was one thing I got the knack of with a heat gun. Lastly, if you so happened to foul some fishing line/pot rope you end up with that stuff all over your hands.

Trilux, but get a cheap brush and paint on the a/foul proper-it comes in grey- the spray stuff seemed totally useless to me.

Agree with the commnets on Trilux, used it successfully on the last boat. Seems like the consensus for new sterndrives is to launch without protection for the fist season until the critters give a 'keyed' surface for the paint to stick, we'l see what happens

Fwiw, I totally disagree with such consensus.

Trilux spray on is easy to get into the inner workings around the transom shield but doesn't last for a season if used on the drive itself, the paint on stuff will last three times as long.

We used millie drive for a season and found it to be rubbish so reverted to trilux untill last season.

We then switched to a cheaper alternative which worked really well last season, we are using it again this year we were so impressed.

One 500ml tin of this stuff will do two outdrives!

I did the same, unwittingly, with my boat when new. It fouled up within months and looked dreadful.
100% with the folk who say Trilux from new, after 'proper' keying preparation of course.
Don't expect too much from Trilux by the way but it's a whole lot better than nothing.
