New Sprayhood and Cockpit Tent

Got a quote for a new sprayhood and cockpit tent from CJ Marine at the LBS last night.

Looked like very good quality but not cheap.

Can anyone recomend another company that makes these ? Ideally Chichester area.

Try Arun Sails at Bosham.

I bought from them a couple of years ago & was very pleased with the result.

I've been happy with things from Coastal Covers, Gosport, but I've not had anything that complicated from them. I know Arun are good because I always get my sails from them.

I wouldn't say anything against any of these good firms, but the cockpit enclosure I had made by C & J last year is really excellent. They are exensie but I think give value for money.

I managed to get quite a reasonable new sprayhood for a 27ft boat from a sailmaker in Littlehampton for £200, which I recon takes some beating. Can dig out the name if you are interested. Seems to me that the cost depends on the distance the sailmaker has to travel to the boat, as they have to visit for fitting etc. The further /longer it takes, the greater the cost.

You're right there. The alternative is making the measurements yourself and convincing the sailmaker to make it to them, but things like sprayhoods are far easier to make to fit. Its not impossible to make one yourself, if you have the time. The secret is to allow some adjustment and tensioning after fitting.

The guys I got my sprayhood from were Arun Canvas & Rigging, The Shipyard, Rope Walk, Littlehampton, 01903-732561. The cost I paid was £200 plus VAT. Its only a small outfit but they are friendly, professional and fast. Good luck.
