£20 to renew VHF licence when it will be free from Oct 1, 2006!!

The Radio Licencing Centre is still sending out VHF licence renewal notices even though the licence will be free from October 1, 2006! I have just been asked for £20 but it is only 7 months from my renewal date to the start of the free ones!!!

I thought all this had been covered? Free starts in Oct. so even if your renewal is due in Sept, you still have to pay the full year.

Mr Winter,

The Ship radio licence reforms commences from 1st October 2006, and until then all ship radio licences will be renewed as normal, and at the same fee charged. The following year licensees will not have to pay anything for renewal, and instead will receive their new life time licence in the post.

There will be further information in the Boating magazines, on Ofcom's website and at the various shows once the system has been finalised.
