New Severn Link ferry across Bristol Channel

Although these ferries are fast we do now live in a faster age, so I cannot see how they expect these to pay when the 19th century Swansea to Ilfracombe service (using retired cross-channel ferries) couldn't survive the railway age.

As they don't propose a Ro-Ro car ferry the lack of a rail connection to Ilfracombe must also mitigate against it.

And for excursionists wanting a day out by sea the slower but more attractive Balmoral at least has promenade decks where passengers can stroll or sit. I only hope that a probably short period of Severn Link operational doesn't jeopardise the existing (though less frequent and more expensive) excursion operations.

It needs to go from Weston across to Cardiff - 16 miles between to the two yet an hour or more on the roads to get there (2-3 if there's a summer snarl up)

Believe me there'd be a lot of traffic, but it would need to carry cars to be effective.
But isn't Weston rather a long way from the sea for at least half of the day?
Might need one of these:-

I, for one, think it is a great idea! SWMBO lives in north Devon, the boat is in Cardiff, I should be able to have a nice little sail down to Swansea to pick her up instead of going all the way down to Ilfracombe! Do you think the nice man was thinking of me when he spent all that money?

A horrible realisation and feeling of deja-vu on re-reading these posts... this appears to be ex Isle of Wight ferry "Shanklin".

I was aboard the previous ex Shanklin when she was a total loss in 1981 ... after being sold for further service in the Bristol Channel as the "Prince Ivanhoe". She was deliberately run aground at low water at Port Eynon (not far from Swansea) after starting to sink following collision with an underwater obstruction.
