I know a new edition of the Small Craft Folio SC5602 West Country, Falmouth to Teignmouth is due anytime but when?

I am planning a trip to the West Country in July - I do not want to do it on the basis of charts that are two years old.

Does anybody know when the new edition will be published? I can't find anything about it on the UKHO site?

Thanks,

Ed

Charts you buy can never be fully up to date, since they have been in the hands of the publisher, distributor and retailer before you get them. The only ones that are are the Admiralty charts if bought from a chart agent who will have kept them up to date, and even he will have only put the permanent changes on, and not temporarry dangers.

If you want to be right up to date look at the last correction on the chart and then look through Notices to Mariners for corrections and correct your charts for them. Alternatively, revert to the procedure used by our forebears, when charts were years out of date and no swift correction mechanism existed, use the chart as a guide and not a definitive statrement of fact and navigate with caution.

Incidentally a friend of mine sank after hitting an uncharted rock just outside Chichester harbour, and you might have thought we nklnew where all the rocks were round the UK

I realise that they will need some updates. It's surprising the numbers of NMs that apply to the charts in SC5600 (Solent) and SC5601 (East Devon/Dorset) and they were only published in January this year. The Folios are a pain to update as well 'cos the NMs don't refer to the charts in the Folio, only to the underlying charts and some of those changes may not be applicable to the Folio...

It's not surprising only 5% of Chart Buyer apply updates...

Chris,
I usually buy Stanfords charts for the East Coast and if you buy them direct, they are corrected up to date, delivery usually 2-3 days. Very good service and you can do further corrections from their website see www.allweathercharts.co.uk

I wanted to buy the new edition of SC5602 earlier this year to start some passage planning at home. The local Solent chandlers had the 2000 (I think) edition, and so I tried to get hold of the latest version when in Falmouth a couple of months ago (on the basis that turnover was likely to be higher there, and so more likely to have up-to-date copies). A chandler there told me that this year's edition was printed, distributed, and then recalled due to a "printing error". Sounds like they have not reprinted since then, which could be embarrassing - I was hoping to pick up a copy this coming week when down that way.
