Hello all,

Based on the Blackwater and have just returned to sailing after a 20 year hiatus. Sailed for years aboard various sailing barges as mate and have a deep love for the rivers of Essex and Suffolk. Happy owner of 'Vim' a Contessa 26 that'll I'll have out for some winter sailing quite soon, but first a trip to the boat jumble in Ipswich next weekend!

Happy days....

Welcome from Brightlingsea. their was an article in the recent PBO about sailing on the Blackwater you might like.

Thanks again for the warm welcome....

Vim came with her original Vire 7hp 2-stroke petrol engine. Nothing wrong with them aside from their propensity to catch fire! I have a 14hp Beta to go in but this will wait until spring and I'll sail without an engine for the winter. I have a flubber/outboard if I need to give her a push. The Vire will go in the shed as a curio for my son to play with.

She's an interesting boat in that she was built 1969 but has spent less than 4 years afloat. She was pulled out of a barn covered in enough guano to fertilise several acres of prime arable! Hull is excellent overall and she's a real time warp, I renamed her as didn't care for the old name and she'd been down on her luck. So after paying all due respect to Neptune I gave her the name Vim. Not after the famous 12 metre, I've always liked the word and the definition suits her.

Did you know that "Vim" is the accusative form of the latin word "vis", which means power or energy? That's why it was chosen for the name of a cleaning compound!
