New mast cost

Paid £1870.56 for a furling 32m² main with short vertical battens, clew block, Dyneema leech line, UV cover and sailbag in 2016 (for a 40 footer) - made from good quality cruising "Dacron" (Dimension-Polyant AP 360). There are reputable sailmakers that do not blow a ton of money on boatshow stands and glossy leaflets and thus do not have to charge you for those things ;)

That's true, I use a good local sailmaker. For the main, I paid extra for better quality sailcloth and for Seal'N'Glide treatment, which I find makes the in-mast furling much easier.

32 M2 is small.( for a 40ft) My 31 ft boat has 27.75M2 mainsail ( as determined by 2 different sailmakers)
My new main received last week base price more than double your price
& 2 firms quoted within £20-00
Even my last dacron mainsail bought 6 years ago was circa £ 2500-00- (less a pre season discount)
