Just taken deliver of our new Merry Fisher 855 c/w 300hp Yamaha. Looks brilliant, interior excellent. Short trip out from Buckler's on Friday into very windy and choppy Solent so can't report much on performance yet.

As discussed here will update with further pictures and performance. Anyone else got one?

Now then where has the Summer gone.....?

Great looking boat!
Enjoy the power when run in.
Hope to meet up in the Solent waters - would be good to compare fuel consumption - just had spring service on Suzuki 300 for the season- outboards are the way to go!
Have good boating season!

Congratulations. Enjoy.
Not a serious buyer at the moment but I think I would choose the 855 rather than the Benny 880 as I like the sliding
side helm door. Not sure about the blue hull tho - takes a lot of looking after to avoid fading
Where are you berthed?

Hi thanks both. I will be berthed at Mylor Yacht Harbour on a dry berthing contract initially. Considering Coppercoating for next year. Will update fuel consumption. Sorry we can't meet in Solent Romans but if you are ever down Cornwall way let me know!

I agree totally about outboards being the way to go and really I don't think there are any bad ones!

Have a good Summer.

Looks great and if/when I might get the family in a boat, seriously tempted by the 855. Much prefer it over the Antares, but that is personal preference only.

I've had a blue hull before and yes it takes a little more to keep smart, but the reward is that it looks so much better than an all white boat.

Enjoy.

Enjoy the boat Webby, hope you have a great Summer with it. I had some interest in the MF 855 and the Ben 880 before deciding to go in a different direction. I'd have had the blue hull too.

Hoping to get to Falmouth for a wk end from Plymouth sometime soon, so may see you around.

Best wishes,
Andrew

Looking to buy an 855 myself and cant decide between Yamaha 300 or twin Yamaha 150's. Does anyone have thoughts on this. Boat will be based in Guernsey - strong tides etc so back up would be good despite big price hike. Local dealer advises that 300hp is v reliable and electronic controls v smooth. How are you finding single 300hp webby?

Hi, I looked at it but the dual engine option adds approx 10k to the price plus extra maintenance, fuel consumption and reduced performance. Most problems with modern engines are generally fuel related so I don't see a great deal of advantage in twin engines.

Hi, spent last week down in Cornwall hoping to get a weeks use out of the MF but to no avail. Weather b awful. On the basis of a couple of hours she takes about 4k rpm to get on the plane and then back off to 3,500 rpm gives approx 20knts. Full throttle gave 33knts on trial run on very lumpy Solent. Will update performance data later in the year. Where is the Summer?

Thanks web by - I came to a similar conclusion - I have placed an order for MF855 with delivery in early July and need to go firm on engine option fairly soon. I have selected single 300, baut as boat is for use in Guernsey waters the extra engine may give peace of mind. I think however that a single engine with possible an auxiliary 15hp two stroke that I have might be a good get out of trouble solution. Will let you know I get on when I take delivery.

At last got a few hours on the water this year.
Some initial performance figures for those as sad as me! Full tank of fuel, water tank, two people.
Yamaha 300 MF855.JPG

Total hours so far 10.5
50.7KNM
116 Ltrs (25.55 galls)
Averaging 2knm per gall.

Not bad.

Will update when run in a bit more.

Thanks for that. So, at 20knot cruise you are using approx 50L/hr -which is about the same as my twin Volvo D3 160s.
60/40 red diesel is about £1/litre compared to what ? £1.30/litre for petrol. So fuel costs are about 30% less for me- but you are quids in on servicing costs.

My Bav29 is for sale - I am becoming more and more convinced that a modern outboard attached to a hardtop is the way forward

I would try and find out how fast a 15hp two stroke would push your boat before you make a decision. As I had a smaller boat with a 9.9 auxiluary and when I needed it, it would only do 2 knots. Perhaps fast enough if the tide was going your way to take you to somwhere you could stop but you aint going to push against the tide. Ath the most you will go sideways.
And having had two boats with twin engines, where I had engine failure with one, a rope round the prop with another, if I had the choice depending on budget, I would buy the newest boat I could afford with two engines.

Hello,
Seems somewhat optimistic though the 855 all with fuel etc. is knocking on for 3tonnes.
Very suspicious of the "lean burn technology"! Seems more of a marketing catch phrase than anything different. All petrol engines are lean burn these days, it just means they use as little fuel as possible at any given revs. In the old days before accurate fuel metering most engines ran rich. I am very happy with the Yamaha and the 855 hull (without the Beneteau's air hull, which seems more marketing hype to me!).
Off down to Cornwall for two weeks on the boat so will update fuel figures.

Interesting figures... I noticed your top RPM was 4300rpm which seems quite low... Is 4300 your WOT RPM?
