I've had a good nose on here to see if I can find a carpet company but no luck.
I would like to replace the carpets on my Targa with similar to what's fitted now.

Anyone recommend a supplier/fitter in the Lymington area? I've tried a couple of local people, one was having a laugh with his pricing and the other thought it too fiddly.

What happened to the guy when I was there on the boat? Does he fit into the " too fiddly" or too ££££££ category, reason is one of my customers in the haven is going to use him for his sweeper.

That's not an easy one to do! Not sure about the Targa but wouldn't have thought it will be any worse

I have a t40 and as farcas I know it is rubber backed with whipped edges c

Simplest would just be to pull it out and take it to a carpet supplier to use as a template.

Jeremy

Even simpler is just contact Ed Engels who has all the templates, he did the overcarpets for my Targa 40. Should be googleable but shout if no joy and I'll dig his number out.

Cheers

He wanted £2k to replace the carpets with another type not even the original. I thought that was way too much but maybe I'm a cheapskate:)
I am just looking for a carpet fitter/ supplier who can fit a good quality similar one so the kids can spill their breakfast or whatever over it!
I'm not keen on the original a bit too dated for my liking.

There can be a lot of wastage in a boat, £2k could be quite reasonable dependant on what carpet that was to include, find out what he allowed per square metre and if you want anything different then cost can be adjusted. Does that includes binding edges and vat? Also take into account that most boats have carpet glued to certain areas so would need removing as well. A lot of carpet fitters don't want to touch a boat as its a lot more involved than a square room.

I think I paid about £350 for the saloon overcarpet, all cut to the right size, correct carpet (something like Ege Gigant from memory, although that may not be right), bound edges, delivered to the boat. Obviously no fitting costs with an overcarpet though.

The original is indeed Ege Gigant, Jimmy. Fairline's oem carpet supplier is www.headlandcarpets.co.uk in Irthlingborough.

The issue here is that normal carpet guys doing houses can work quickly in square rooms using gripper rod. The underlay is thrown down and quicly stapled, and cut to =/- 10mm. The carpet is then cut only roughly to size (+/-5mm or whatever), and the edge is tucked down between the gripper rod and the skirting board. Fast and easy.

On a boat it's totally different. The carpet must be cut perfectly to the right shape, with curves etc.. It should ideally have felt or similar backing applied to the carpet with glue (that is how it is done OEM). And the old carpet can be labour intensive to remove if glued down. £2k can indeed be a sensible price for a good OEM standard job, imho

Andy , I have just had saloon / galley / lower helm done by Adrian at powerboat services , very happy with it £ 500 all in including removal (all stuck down )
You are welcome to have a look on the boat if passing .

Andy,

That's more like it. I too will go for a similar colour so in fairness £2k seems to be a reasonable rate but with two kids who have an eating and drinking problem it's too nice. If I can get close to your level and I have to replace in a year or two it's a bit easier on the pocket.
I'd worry a lot less about the odd mark or three.

Andy that looks a fantastc job. even at twice the price. £500 looks a complete bargain imho. Good going. (and I love the leather colour too! Uber contemptoire!)

Thanks guys , very pleased with finished job . Adrian is a good guy and knows his way around boats ( many years working for sealine ).

I have 2 kids - 3 and 6 and have a similar problem.

The solution .... I got the carpets cleaned ( damn expensive in Mallorca) and then every time we visit cover it in this stuff

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-X-ROLL-...0603861049?pt=UK_Flooring&hash=item5d45d9d039

Lasts for 4 weeks without passing tackiness onto the carpet. It is total magic. Takes 5 mins to put down, dont really notice it when down and at the end of the holiday pull it off and stick it in the bin - dont even need to hoover!

That's a great idea, might get a roll to try. Thanks for that.

Jaysiz Jim! Thought I was robbed when I paid 70 euro for enough over-carpet to cover the whole cabin (2 bedrooms, 1 saloon) x 2. Mind you, I cut out all the templates myself and cut the carpet too (wasn't hard)

Now, the thing is, I DIDN'T get the edges bound. The reason being? Well, if I got them bound i'd grow an emotional attachment to them. The whole idea of the over-carpet for me is that at the end of the season I cut out new carpet using the old template, and chuck the old carpet out. The carpets don't last long where i'm based (Come over for a weekend some time and you'll see what I mean... we trail through forests etc. not marina style)

Now that said, you can see if you look in the cabin pics on my link below and that over-carpet looks like an obvious over-carpet, it doesn't look professional by any means (which doesn't bother me). If you like to have the carpet totally pristine and looking OEM then what you did above makes sense. I just keep the OEM carpe. t tucked away nicely. Any time someone has come to view the boat, they liked the fact that the OEM carpets hadn't been set foot on!

Regardless of price, getting an over-carpet is the first thing i'd get done if I acquired a boat with carpet

Visit some nearby carpet fitter or have recommendations from your family who have hired experts for fitting carpets in their home. You can also contact the carpet manufacturer as they have such persons in touch who can fit the carpet. So first have some recommendations and then compare their price and hire then.
