They have so far only sold 300 of them so far. If they can increase the number they produce, the price should reduce.

More likely they will keep the price at that level if people buy it at that price. Looks quite difficult to store.

We need more electric outboard manufacturers, competition will improve the breed, both from a technical and a customer service point of view. Well done for bringing something new to market, always a risk and struggle.

Don't see why this concept should not develop into a solution that is better for some, particularly for storage and transport.

I'm happy to propel an inflatable with a couple of wooden sticks for now, but who knows in 10 years?

Looking forward to seeing what happens with this industry. Don't want a petrol stinking boat, I've had it with infrequently used traditional outboards, but could not picture leaving a £1.5k bit of kit on the beach while we go for a meal ashore either.

Interesting. But unfortunately to accommodate all that the tender would have to be too big to be propelled by it!

And lots of spare drill batteries would be needed! Typical top-of-the-range cordless drills often have 90Wh batteries - about a tenth of the capacity of a Torqeedo.

The problem with many of the basic electric propulsion set ups is that they are not waterproof. Not great obviously in a marine environment but useless when its raining. Whilst the pricey Torqueedo is waterproof for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter (as they state) this maybe in relation to the lithium battery, I believe one of the forum members looked into this and contacted Torqueedo who said to him the whole unit is not ultimately waterproof and should be kept out of the rain long term I.e. Not stored on a pushpit like a petrol outboard but in a dry locker. This is only forum info and should be clarified by Torqueedo themselves.

My Torqeedo manual says the whole unit can be immersed at 1 metre depth for at least an hour. I can't see that sticking it on a pushpit would greatly increase the chances of water getting into it.

This is probably old news for Torqueedo owners but just in case you have bought second hand...

GILCHING, Germany, June 14, 2019 — Torqeedo GmbH, Gilching, has determined a possible safety risk in connection with the batteries of the outboard motors “Travel” and “Ultralight”: There is a possible leak in the battery housing, therefore it cannot be ruled out that water may penetrate into the battery housing.
There is a corresponding risk in particular if a leaky battery becomes completely or partially submerged underwater, so that more water can penetrate into the battery housing.
If water penetrates into the housing, it may cause a chemical reaction inside the battery case under unfavorable conditions, resulting in fire and/or bursting of the battery housing.
As a responsible manufacturer, Torqeedo wants to exclude the risk of injury and inform its customers.
We will perform an inspection for the following models and serial numbers and – if necessary – repair of the batteries:
ModelSerial number (S. no.) from … – to …
Travel1001… – 1752…
Ultralight1117… – 1826…

Its hard to be sold on an electric outboard with limited range when you could have nearly 3 honda 2.5 hp for same money.
