New generation anchors: how well do they hold? (pic)

Spade anchor put together wrong.

It looks like you put the anchot together wrong. The yellow side of the anchor should be facing the shank. The Spade anchor will not function as designed when put together in this fashion. You made it look like the CQR or Delta, which the Spade anchor is the opposite.
Take the anchor off and assemble it correctly and you will find out how well the anchor really works.

The picture is the best I could find at short notice, as I am laid up.
It appears the spade is supplied in two pieces, at least from some suppliers.
Ours is held together by a 12mm ss bolt, nyloc nut and ss split pin.I would prefer a welded joint, but the anchor was inherited.
Holding? excellent - so far.

Michael.

The Spade consistently comes out on top in French tests. In early days there was an incident involving the nut coming undone which led to a court case. This was an isolated incident which has since been dealt wth.

The bolt is non-load-bearing - as demonstrated by a video clip on this page - and the guy who attempted to sue Spade was trying it on.

I couldn't possibly say which forum member this newly assembled Spade anchor belongs to but as it's one of those new generation anchors I'm curious as to how well it might hold?

Could anyone enlighten me? ;)

I guess what you really need is one of these...
