I couldn't possibly say which forum member this newly assembled Spade anchor belongs to but as it's one of those new generation anchors I'm curious as to how well it might hold?

Could anyone enlighten me? ;)

Problem is its on an anchor lift self launching bow roller and nothing stops the roller launching the anchor other than the chain.
I have found that my existing bow roller with a Bruce over it is by a quirk of design in my case configured to do exactly the same.
I was doing some measuring up and left the Bruce attached to nothing balanced a bit like in the picture luckily without any pivoting roller and a nice small fishing cruiser parked under my bow. Luckily remembers just as I was leaving yard to move anchor out of way!

I think you should look a little closer at the pic. The mole grips are the least of the problems ;) :D

No the shank is good and the head is on the wrong way up. The other problen it has is that it has not been pushed or tapped fully home. Once you do that the shank protrudes through the head and is locked by a split pin.

Yes changed my CQR for one of these and the holding is brilliant.

New Gen Anchors

The picture is the best I could find at short notice, as I am laid up.
It appears the spade is supplied in two pieces, at least from some suppliers.
Ours is held together by a 12mm ss bolt, nyloc nut and ss split pin.I would prefer a welded joint, but the anchor was inherited.
Holding? excellent - so far.

Michael.

I've not examined one in person, but supposedly the bolt is not load-bearing once the anchor's dug in. They have a bit on their website about testing it with the bolt removed, to prove this.

It's obvious to any Spade owner that the bolt is not doing any work. Holding with the anchor on the shank the right way up is superb - can't comment on the other way up scenario.
