New electronics suite, what models to go for?

Reporting back- not good
I put the new £300 chart chip in and the charts look same as before (red hatching over areas where there should be detail) and nothing like navionics. I’m wondering whether the supplier has loaded the old garmin charts into the SD card not the new ones. I’m going to have to call them get it sorted out. I bought from Cactus who are normally good.

I have the CEO of garmin marine on board as a lunch/dinner guest next weekend (over from Kansas- he is friend of EME) so “escalating” this will be fairly easy! :D

Years ago when I had a Cetrek chart plotter (early 2000s) on a Princess, an upgrade to the chart produced blacked out areas where there should have been detail. Eventually ascertained that the new chart required the Cetrek to have a software upgarde which wasn't available and wasn't going to be created. Hmmm.

JFM’s new build will have 17 screens, 8 independent GPS receivers and 4 miles of n2k......I’d get my shares now :):):)

Because I can get decent reductions on price!

We have brand new Garmin - came with the boat - and I hate it to the point where they would have to pay me before I bought anything more from them. UI is horrible - give me Raymarine every time!

I had the Garmin 6012 ( I think ) on the s65.

It was better than Raymarine by a mile but Raymarine have gone bust ( again ) since and seem to have caught up on the r and d front ( I have not used it but looked online)

Garmin support was outstanding. Sadly we needed it a few times as the radar failed ( and recently went again ) as did the autohelm and the system froze

Wow! Each to own of course but I love garmin’s ui. Imho it’s the marine equivalent of Samsung in terms of never having to read the manual. Sorry to hear you’re disappointed and I hope it grows on you.

I’ll report back on my navionics chart thing ASAP.

Looking forward to that!!

Interesting - I find Samsung entirely the opposite :)
