As above received two new BW turbos for my KADs and the gasket kit contains a syringe of oil. This may become obvious once I've removed the old ones but where does this oil go and is there any other pre -preperation that needs to be made before slapping them on and reving them up?
 
Is the main spindle bearing oil lubricated ? If so when they are fitted before connecting the oil supply pipe squirt some in .
This is to pre lub them when new before oil pressure from the very first start is sufficient, in other words they are not dry .

With engine assembly you manually pre oil cam and crank bearings / shells for the same reason .

There‘s a similar school of thought with longstanding none runners , remove the fuel pump ( or eq ? ) fuse and crank the thing over to wet everything inside with oil , get oil to the now dry bearing surfaces before firing the thing up .

Watch the oil P gauges always ......presumably you have one ?

Similarly watch the oil temp gauges and when up to temp , ie all the T + P a are up , .........then open them up let rip so to speak .

Its what I do boat + classic cars .
Mechanical sympathy is a bit old school I know but worth it .
 
Thanks for that Porto, makes sense. The syringe threw me off some, it's as if there was some small grub screw port or something I had to pre-fill. (Cue super charger oil reservoir)
 
Are you doing an engine oil change at the same time to ensure lovely fresh oil going to your sparkling new turbos

I change my oil every season with filters. If the turbos cant handle that they're not gonna last, not that they do, but ............

Disconnecting the wire from the stop solenoid is the usual.

The Volvo manual does suggest to use fresh oil on the turbo change out.
Bruce - as a tip if you kad is the same as a 300 - there is a braket that holds the two pipes (the ones top and bottm of the turbo) which is further down a bit awkward but if you can undo it that will give some play when taking the pipes off the turbo.
