New boat

Having turned 78 last month, I thought I'd find something a bit smaller and more comfortable to see out my sailing years... My Lightwave served me well for 20 years carrying us quickly and safely over many 1000's of miles, albeit once I'd given up racing not ideal as a cruising boat.
If you are only 78 and want comfort, may I recommend a Sadler Barracuda

Fair play, I hope I can still sail a boat like that when I'm 78.

She was back in the UK at Plymouth Yacht Haven for a few months over the winter and having recovered from the Prostate lurgy I concluded bugger that, we're off back to Southern Brittany.

My partner and I sailed her across to Roscoff at the beginning of March then she went home, I sailed the boat on down to Quiberon solo.

Keep at it, you're only as old as the boat you're sailing (or something like that !)

There's been questions about Feeling yachts previously.
Interesting, the Feeling I'm looking at is 2002, built so a different generation I guess, it does seem very well built and nicely finished below, although as mentioned the cockpit is comparatively small, but adequate. Having said that the Sun Odyssey 37 seems to be ahead by a nose for the moment but our preference, the 'owners version' 2 cabin model, is a little harder to find and this coming week will call for more distant travelling for hopefully the right boat

Sun Odyssey 37 (highly favoured by madame, however the first viewed was somewhat tired but several others on the market, would ideally prefer two cabin, but definitely not shoal draft and / or in-mast furling)
We have the very very similar 36.2 two cabin and its a nightmare. After experiencing the epic cockpit locker, owners berth bigger than a kingsize bed, and really rather nice heads with separate shower we’ve really struggled to find anything to want next. Every boat we’ve looked at except the 45.2 has been lacking in storage, bed space, or had a terrible shower cubicle.
Even worse, it sails almost upright at hull speed in most wind conditions 🤣 we do have the deeper keel which makes it very stiff, and it had less movement than a HR46 we rafted to as we stepped from boat to boat.

Things have moved on over the past couple of weeks, sadly walked away from both the Elan 362's on sale in the UK due to the teak decks being worn out.

It would appear this morning I'm about to become the owner of a Dufour 38 Classic, if there are any past or present owners on here or if anyone has sailed on one I'd appreciate hearing their views ?

Congratulations sir.
Now comes the fun/tricky bit of discovering all the quirks and niggles. Enjoy your voyage of discovery my friend.

A Dufour 38 Classic was on my list many moons ago but couldn't find one in budget, got a Bav 36 with a very similar layout instead and had more than a decade of fun family holidays on her. I still sail a Bav in the Med and my brother sails a Bav in Scotland. Perfectly happy with AWBs, they really don't deserve the bashing they get.

Wishing you well, and I'm sure you will have many happy seasons with her.

A friend had a Dufour 385 Classic. It sailed well, and handled bumpy seas fine. I had a Snapdragon 24 at the time, so I found the interior positively agoraphobic.

My only criticism was that the bow was barely in the water, so my first experience of it was slamming, albeit very gently, in 1 foot waves in Chichester Harbour.

I request lots of crossed fingers please, it's survey day on the Dufour 38 Classic on Tuesday...

Hopefully I'll be a boat owner again by the end of next week !
My folks had the 36 Classic and took it from Ireland to the Med. Nice boat, very comfortable and sailed pretty well for a voluminous cruiser. My dad’s main criticism was that it flexed a bit in tougher weather, but it never actually led to any issues.
