Good Evening all,

Have been about for a while but passively reading and researching and viewing a range of boats.

Been a past boat owner with a small 21ft diesel fisher then a 31ft motor sailed but wanting just to go down the diesel route now!

Have a Hamble mooring up to 32ft ready to go and want to cruise mostly the Solent, South Coast, Channel Islands and hopefully the Continental Canals. I have looked at Aquastar 33 Ocean Rangers, Aquastar 27s, Channel Island 33s and Corvette 32s which me and my Wife fell in love with but can’t quite stretch the budget that far yet. I want to view a Princess DS30 yet too but non local appeared yet but prepared to travel.

I’m aware boat ownership is individual and always a compromise unless you have unlimited budgets but wanted a few suggestions in case I’ve missed anything.

Also are 150bhp diesels ok pottering along at 7kts and if so what kind of economy can I expect from at pair of 150/200s in a 32 ft hull at displacement speeds.

Many thanks in advance for your time and assistance,

Matt

if you like the pilot house style boats, what about an ACM Elite - 31 feet and a nice layout. Good for a dislpacement speed use but with some speed when you need it.

Not super common but they are about.

This in one for sale in Southampton. I reckon thats pretty top of the value but its a late 2003 boat. You can get 1999-2000 boats if willing to travel to northern france for half that.

She’s lovely but I should have mentioned my budget of about £40,000. Quite like twin engines as a get me home as I have a young Son.

Very nice boat indeed though. Is it a lot more tricky purchasing abroad in terms of risk?

Thanks for your response,

Matt

Also looks nice, hadn’t considered that and a good looking boat. A little wary of stern drives though and do like an enclosed wheel house.

Certainly worth a look though.

Thanks a lot ?

Thanks for that, viewed one that way with the 150 hp twins and although not the right boat had fantastic accommodation. One up North with twin Perkins M90s which I love the look of at the same price but again pushing budget. Although like you say may well be worth a shot!

Lots in France and some early examples under £40k
Pretty easy to buy in France with a little help that you’ll get on here

Strangford Lough is only 1/2 hour from Belfast city airport so easy viewing.

Stop by the IOM on your boat trip home :):):)

Lovely combo, why so much cheaper than all other ACMs I’ve seen?!

Its compatible with some early french boats. The on I linked to was a bit over the top price wise but it was more to show the type/model.

Though I think the one on ebay looks pretty good for £35k. I wouldn't worry about the twin engines - the biggest cause of engine stop is fuel and since boats this size will feed both engines from one tank any issues will likely hit both.

Obviously caveat emptor but I cant see you'd get more boat for £35k. might even take an offer

They’ve selected best offer when listing so defo open to it I would say.

Some would be put off as it’s in Northern Ireland so that will impact the price. Certainly does for the Isle of Man.

Very keen on these. I had discounted them as thought they were well over budget along with the Nimbus and Skilsos but pleasantly surprised.

As have always worked at sea with the likes of Nelson etc commercial hulls so have been drawn to them but to use going out with the family on pleasant weather is hugely overkill and juicey on diesel.

I think a single diesel thinking about it isn’t a deal breaker as can’t really recall that many times a well maintained diesel has broken down apart from a fuel blockage or bad luck!!

May have to pop up to NI for a look!!

I owned one for a few years, great little boat. I sold mine to a couple of guys who sailed it home from Inverkip to Stromness in Orkney.
Mine had a single Yanmar 240 in it, kept the fuel clean and never had any problems.
