Oven not working properly. Stripped out burner ring and emptied enough rust to fill an egg cup! Oven now OK but after 12yrs of charter use think its another item I will replace before next season.

Its 500 wide unit and I would like to get a grille on next one.

Any recommendations or what ones to avoid and good deals that you are aware of?

we replaced out flavel last year with a Spinflo Nelson ...... what a difference. Thermostatic oven & separate grill . Highly recommended

Spinflo Nelson usually comes out well in tests as does the Neptune 4500. Both have grills and are under 500mm with gimbals.

I bought a Spinflo Nelson on the advice of the forum and found that various parts are not made of stainless and rust ferociously including the burner sockets and the wire pan holders and pan clamps.

I was most disappointed and will be looking for these parts to be made from stainless when I come to replace it.

+1 mine has rotted after just two years. Not sure what the alternatives are for a two burner hob and grill only setup?
 
Jenneau fit the ENO as original equipment and its slightly in excess of 500 wide with gimbols but there is a further 25mm wooden block each side , it doesn't have a grill though.

It appears that the Nelson, Plastimo, SMEV Dometic etc can be had with a separate grill but they are all only 450 wide.

Don't really want to reduce capacity by 10% and greater surface area of hob burners is preferred.

Only the Techimplex (Penguin Eng) & ENO are 500 wide and while they state they can have grills from picture I assume the grill must be at the top of the oven so you cant use the grill and oven at same time. Info gleaned from internet pictures. Have I got this right or are pictures of the most attractive model in the range which are the models without grill option.

Can anyone advise of a marine cooker min with 500 (without gimbols) that has both a grill & oven that can be used simultaneously?

That's surprising. I'm not sure about the burner sockets on mine (though there's no sign of any corrosion there) but I'm pretty all the wire bits on top are stainless.

As a Techimpex owner, I would strongly recommend that you buy a Nelson; as liveaboards we undoubtedly use our cooker more than average, but in under two years the pan stand, pan clamps and hob burners on our Techimpex are all worn/rusted out - £150 for those bits. Nothing's worn out on the grill or oven, but that's perhaps because they're both so useless that we barely use them.
 
Another plus vote for the Spinflo Nelson.
Just sold a boat with a 3 burner ENO. SWMBO says it was rubbish. She is glad we are back to a boat with a Nelson.
Personally I know nothing about cookers - don't even know how to use one !

The Plastimo Neptune is/was made by Leisure Products of Bolton.

I fitted mine in 1996, before I left for places farther S in 2000. Since then I've used it continuously for 6/12.
Externally it looks as if it's all stainless - but the carcass is actually mild steel. That means you have to regularly re attach the oven-door hinges - originally self-tappers I've modified to used nuts and bolts.
I've had to rebuild the grill unit - it's a bad design - and modify it considerably. However all the burners have safety cutouts - the oven burner is ceramic and the thermostat still works.
The burners on the hob are all enamelled castings, with no protection internally - that means that I regularly have to ream out the build up of rust in the burner holes.

I do, in fact, cook a lot - only eating out about once a week. All the burners are used - the oven and grill regularly.

I'd not have expected such good service from a cheap, occasional-use caravan-cooker - but have found it far better than Gaz and Flavell alternatives that I have tried.
With only a 500mm cooker gap in the galley, I'm really committed to the Plastimo/Leisure Products unit - I can even use a 24cm pressure cooker on the top, though it does heat unevenly.
 
I've also got a Spinflo Nelson, now coming up to 10 yrs old, never had a problem with it, still clean and not rusting at all. Used regularly including grill and oven. My only gripe is that mine, for whatever reason, did not come with the cradle which keeps the grill pan in place. Spoke to Leisure Products?(or whoever now own Spinflo), gave correct part number and they said it would be 4 weeks delivery - ok I said, then received an email saying 'no longer available' ....... I was not happy.
 
I was going to say that I fitted a Spinflo Nelson 10 years ago but I have checked and it is actually 15. Life plods on.

It has always worked very well, the oven is good (of it's type, of course) and the thermostat is a bonus. It makes excellent toast and with a bit of juggling you can do 3 slices at a time. The construction is largely stainless inside and out, which was not the case with many cookers at the time I bought it. Enamelled internals where, and maybe are, quite common.
Negatives:
The back is open to the insulation and would be better if it had an alloy panel for protection and hygiene. An easy fix if it concerns you.
The burners are on the small side and both the same size.
The pan clamps and gimbal mounts are plated steel as are the burner fittings. I make a point of giving them a wipe with an oily rag now and again like Dad's old lawnmower. Mine are still mostly shiny and not too shabby.

The thing has only had a dollop of seawater a couple of times and I have carefully cleaned it on each occasion. Seawater is death to cookers.

I can't see that the cooker won't outlast me but if it did expire I would buy the same again.

Another +1 for the Nelson Spinflow, had mine for 3 years and use it every month when I stay 10 days aboard (including winter), just clean it and
it works well and no issues with rust at present !

My Techimpex has separate grill and oven. The modern equivalent seems to be the Mastergrill: http://www.techimpex.co.uk/ModelMastergrill.html
