New Boat Gas Cooker

we replaced out flavel last year with a Spinflo Nelson ...... what a difference. Thermostatic oven & separate grill . Highly recommended

Do not buy an ENO.
We chucked ours onto ebay as the oven was totally crap. We replaced it with a Spinflo, and have been delighted with the results. Only downside is the at the fiddles are not quick release, you have to unscrew them all the way to remove.

Jenneau fit the ENO as original equipment and its slightly in excess of 500 wide with gimbols but there is a further 25mm wooden block each side , it doesn't have a grill though.

It appears that the Nelson, Plastimo, SMEV Dometic etc can be had with a separate grill but they are all only 450 wide.

Don't really want to reduce capacity by 10% and greater surface area of hob burners is preferred.

Only the Techimplex (Penguin Eng) & ENO are 500 wide and while they state they can have grills from picture I assume the grill must be at the top of the oven so you cant use the grill and oven at same time. Info gleaned from internet pictures. Have I got this right or are pictures of the most attractive model in the range which are the models without grill option.

Can anyone advise of a marine cooker min with 500 (without gimbols) that has both a grill & oven that can be used simultaneously?

Sailfree, I got the Nelson SPinflo into my Sun Odyssey 35. But it cost me about £500 to get a proper craftsman in to make the changes. We had to change the back panel to allow gimballing, remove the overhangs in thhe worktop area and replace with flat fittings, and reduce the height of the fridge compressor locker by 50mm (we used all the existing panels after cut and refit). Can photograph and send if you are interested.

Best £500 quid ever spent.

Yes I noticed it too. The Spinflo gimbal axis is at the top, level with the burners which means it's needs more space to swing. My previous cooker gimballed about 1/3rd down from the top.

Also because the gimbal "lock" is on the end of the gimbal axis, it is totally useless. I just mounted a sliding lock on the rear (bathroom door type) ....... works a treat

Ah forgot that, yes, we use a gate hook at the front right, on the frame under the oven door.

Thanks.

Not sure I want to alter the cooker housing unless the replacement cooker was exceptional.

I really would like to retain maximum cooker size as a quick ready made meal heated in the oven on a Sunday before everyone rushes off back to London is needed and potentially it would need to be for 8-10 people!

Appreciate peoples comments but while my ENO is now suffering from a rusty oven burner ring it is 10yrs old and had heavy charter use.

Current priority is the 500 width and max kw burners. Will need to investigate the force 10 range.

Problem is I doubt there will be many exhibitors at LIBS hence appreciate others advice and warnings on here.

You will struggle to find a separate grill other than the ones already mentioned as it is almost a peculiarly British thing. Ignoring the width issue, if you want to replace an oven only with an oven and grill height becomes a problem as Jim says, so the cooker has to come over the top of the worktop or you have to cut away below (and probably as he did) create space to gimbal. External size is not necessarily a good guide to capacity so you need to find the internal dimensions of the oven.

One that has not been mentioned so far is the Dometic Moonlight. This is 500 wide, has a big oven and 3 burner top, but no grill. That might be a good almost direct replacement for your ENO. Good price as well - Force 4 have them.

Our boat was supposed to come with an Eno but the cook vetoed it so I asked for a Spinflo Nelson, it of course was delivered without any cooker at all and the chandlers at Largs where she was commissioned only had a Plastimo Neptune. I had to make teak spacers for the gimbals and shape a teak block for the restraining bolt but the cooker has been heavily used for seven years without problem and without any visible rust, good for at least another 15 at this rate. We tend too cook a fair bit, (exaggeration, she cooks a fair bit but I make the toast some mornings) and are cruising for perhaps 12 weeks in a typical summer. We did have to change the battery on the ignition system once but burners etc. are fine. The grill pan is wide enough for three slices of toast but the heat never extends beyond the middle one so you need to keep shuffling, but that amount of attention means it doesn't get burnt.
