After a couple of years with our MF855 it is time for a final upgrade. So the deposit is down on the Bavaria S450 coupe that was shown at SIBS. Apparently not brand new but about 50 hours on the twin Volvo Penta D6 400 engines. We are sea trialling and the survey being done shortly.
I would welcome comments on this boat/engine choice.

Many congratulations, hope all goes well.

We have had our 39 Sport - soft top - since 2013 and think its great. We had a 44 Sport Hard top (forerunner to "yours") next to us at Guernsey in 2014, and it looked massive. We have D4 260s in ours and it does what we need to to do but frankly we have not had enough boats to compare it to to know if we needed bigger engines. I am assuming that it will have had the 50 hours service ?.

Just a couple of pointers from our experience

1. At her first annual service the VP agent noticed that the commissioning VP dealer (Swanwick ?) didn't note the speed and revs at WOT, so had nothing to compare it to after their service. Not sure if this is a big issue though as we can still push over 30kts in ours so are pretty happy

2. Again at the first annual service, Darthaven jet washed her and the Anti Foul came off in clumps. Their expert determined poor preparation and priming - but Clipper were fantastic and paid for remedial work no problem.

Where will you be keeping her ? After re-locating from the UK to the Med we often debate the pros and cons of hard top v soft top, but frankly are happy with what we have .... for now :-)

Hope all goes well and you have many enjoyable hours with her.

Congratulation.

That was my favourite boat of the show and definitely top of my list if I ever upgrade. Think I'd cut the bathing platform in half though and save a bit on the mooring :encouragement:

Congratulations Alan,

Wasn't so long ago we were both in MF645s and I'm still there. Thinking of a move up, but all depends on whether I have enough spare family time for us to make use of it...not a problem you seem to have!

The MF645 was a great boat as a first boat for us and I would never regret getting her. The MF855 has also served us well for the past two years as we have got far more adventurous, but later today we say goodbye as the Bavaria S45 purchase is complete. As I have got older, had a health scare of my own and had a parent pass away, you realise that life is short so enjoy it while you can. This boat will require us to downsize our house and watch our day to day living costs, but hey, it is a very nice boat.

Exactly the unfortunate situations that we experienced earlier this year. Life really is too short not to enjoy it. We have just upgraded our MF645 to something larger and more comfy.

Congratulations, Lovely boat, a good layout inside and in the cockpit. That'll be a fab Solent boat and also to go anywhere you feel like branching out to. Great looking boat as well which is nice in these days of some fairly dubious aesthetics.

Sounds like you've got a good attitude to changing up to that boat as well, we went through a similar process a couple of years ago with our last change, went up to a boat way bigger than the 2 of us and the dog need but it was a model we really fancied and you're certainly only here for a very finite time so make the most of it, have something like that that you want, and enjoy it. We're loving the results of our "now or never" decision and I'm sure you'll feel the same every time you get out the car and walk down the pontoon to it.

Congrat’s on the new one, if you like me when you get on board you will say its huge compared to the old one and within a few months it will shrink or is it just me!
Enjoy.

Congratulations on the new purchase. Hope we get a good summer this coming year and you get to play loads with your new toy  Looking forward to seeing the photos :encouragement:
Summer? Who needs summer. The boat has a fully enclosed cockpit, two Webastos and a 8kw genny. So we'll be out and about throughout the winter. One of our best boating experiences was on the most recent New Years eve out on Southampton Water. At the stroke of midnight all hell let loose all around us, with hundreds of simultaneous firework displays. We'll be doing it again this year if the weather is kind and in much more comfort.
