New boat day - axopar 28

OK, so with the boat fully loaded, I am easily hitting 6000rpm (the max revs fotlr the engine) and only getting 37 knots, that is with the engine correctly trimmed.



The specs for the boat say it should hit 42 knots, so I suspect it is underpropped. It would be surprising if it was as the engine and prop were fitted at the factory, as opposed to by the dealer after delivery.

I'll contact the factory and see what prop it should have and go from there.

Just been for a swim, it currently has an enertia 14.5 x 17p prop.

Had a quick snorkel over to a nearby axopar 37,which had 2 x 300 hp Mercury v8 to have a look at their props, and I know its an almost meaningless comparison given the differences, but they had a 14.6 x 20p prop.

Managed to eke out 38.3knots, rock solid smooth through a fair old chop, still waiting to hear from the factory what prop it should have.

It’s true but they always stop traffic, always a crowd around them in port as well

So, the mystery key was for locking an access hatch under the drivers seat in case any other owners are interested.

God knows why that particular access hatch warrants a lock and none of the others do.

The hatch just gives access to the fuel tank, its not a storage area as such.

There's much easier access to the fuel via the filler cap which isn't protected at all.

The best way to protect fuel is to burn it

I never begrudge the petrol bill as its directly proportional to use / enjoyment!

I intend to buy a diesel fuel only filler cap. That should keep the petrol thieves at bay and the diesel thieves alongside.

Unfortunately with an outboard boat its difficult to get away with!

Get a big sticker that says ‘COX’ and stick over the Mercury stickers. That and your fuel cap will convince anyone it’s diesel. But make sure you always fill it up yourself, don’t let the pump attendant do it for you
