Hi,

With so many people crossing tuhe Atlantic at this time of year, I thought you might like to know that Weatheronline have added some excellent Atlantic weather maps to their 'Expert Charts' section.

The charts include pressure, wind, visibility and rainfall and come from the GFS model. They are updated 4x per day and are available from http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-...&BASE=-&VAR=pslv&HH=0&ARCHIV=0&PANEL=0&ZOOM=0

Now, I have to declare an interest because I do some forecasting for Weatheronline. But, I have been working with them to develop this and I think it is so good I'd be telling you about it anyway.

If you would like any additional data then let me know and I'll pass the message on to them, they are very keen to get this right and of course it is completely free of charge. They should be commended for their hard work.

Enjoy!
Simon

thanks Simon,

a nice addition to the SLP chart might be the indication of the ITCZ location, even if only a sketch, rather than having to look at the other convection charts. Not sure if it could be done automatically though..

as an example, here they indicate the ITCZ position, together with an indication of weak/strong convection by one/two/three slashes

thanks

Hi,

Yes, the ITCZ is drawn manually on these charts.

But what you could do is look at the rainfall forecast (as below) and that tells you where the ITCZ is. Pull up a 'panel' of these charts and you can see it shifting north and south.

Thanks for the link, the area is really helpful. We are awaiting to cross from US (Norfolk va) to St Martin and having all the models to look at is great. Looks like a Monday departure!
