New anchoring restrictions Cote D'Azur

I was reading in MBY that there are new rules prohibiting anchoring close to shore in anything 24m+ across quite a stretch of the coast, including Iles de Lerin. Is this going to prompt an exodus of larger boats from the area?
 
I have seen something about this, but not recently. There is/was a plan to make all vessels larger than 24M anchor further out to protect the environment. This has been the case in the bay of Beaulieu for some time and JFM use to complain about it and stopped going to Paloma. The areas are marked in Beaulieu with large yellow buoys with the smaller yellow buoys used to keep people no closer than 300m from the shore line.

In Villefranche I always get the feeling that you have to anchor further and further out.

Not having a 24M+ boat has once again given me additional freedoms!
 
Tnx for the link Marc , here my take from what I know .
It’s not environmental thats just the cover story .
There‘s a little group one of the layers of hierarchy that sits just above the marina operators but under “ Paris “
This group consists of marina operators representatives plus other marine business interested parties like tourisme and boat sales men , mayors office ( read property developers ) .

Whats it’s all about is INCREASING the net hulls , boats sold , serviced attracting more business and infrastructure.
There is only a finite sq meter age of water for the little ( where ever the cut is made ) guys to anchor .
So they have done this to eventually convert / split a 80 ft boats fiscal spend into many ribs and sub 30 ftr day boats .
Theses day boat number rises need to keep pace with the extra apartments / villas + hotel beds nights they are planning .

As the article says the SY s will be unaffected.I note between la Nap / la Rague there favourite mistral hide hole is still there as is Abramavitches Peloris summer almost permanent anchorage in the bay of W of cap d Antibes ...see the rectangle inroad .

Its as the article says the 80-100 ones that will be effected ,aside most are ornaments , a lot on charter and when they do actually move off there berths can often ruin a peaceful anchorage ( read wake me up ! :) ) by the racket they make playing with the water toys ....because they want there monies worth.
Nothing personal but something gotta give ,The property developers are to blame if you want to blame anyone/ thing fwiw ?
Inland they are building more marina / day boat space at the back of la Nap ...with apartments .

This policy is to facilitate expansion of the day boat industry to meet demands of the growing population in the summer .

They the 80/100 ftrs can always nip over to the bay of st Trop anyhow .

Moving from the Alp maritime to the Var is metaphorically speaking like moving to Hicksville in terms of infrastructure and busyness on the water .
Chillax .
Aside around the Porquerolles they already have genuine environmental hatched off no anchor areas .
 
So here we have a pic of what I found anchoring quite close to shore in the new area prohibiting 80 ft upwards anchoring .
I was very close and in only 3/4 M tops .
Theses have been killed by small boats .Bigger ones are not responsible.
Its a lot of little anchors day after day etc .

A protected clam ....all dead ripped off the bottom between the weed .
This only get worse as more and more day boating villa owners rock up .

The Management plan states that vessels over 16 metres long can only anchor at a depth of 15 metres in popular coves, such as Cala Falcó, Cala Virgili, Cala Antena, Na Romaguera, Es Domingos , Cala Murada, S'Algar, Portocolom, Cala Marçal, Cala Brafi, Cala Sa Nau and Cala Mondragó.

The restrictions are even tighter in Cala Mondragó where a ban has been slapped on charter boats and rentals and only boats up to 12 metres long can anchor on sand.

says "popular coves such as", but does that mean lots of coves?

I believe that the max length in Villefranche and off Cap Ferrat is actually 20m not 24m although it is 24m further west

Either way I reckon the value of my 19.96m LOA boat parked in Antibes has just gone up:D

It went from 45m to 24m in only five years, so I don’t think you have long to realise yours boats new value

Then I'll take my boating Euros somewhere else. The Spaniards pissed me off with their matriculation tax so I buggered off out of Majorca to somewhere else and if the French make it difficult I'll do the same

Btw are there any LOA based anchoring restrictions down your way around the Porquerolles?

Not as far as I know, except for the National Park around the island of Port Cros where nobody is allowed to anchor.

The only place that published this was the Mallorca Daily Bulletin.

it is allegedly under the Natura 2000 plan, but I can find no other references to these limitations.

Have you been successful in finding anything?

This picture could shortly be one for the history archives!!!! Last known picture of boats in Cala Mondrago!! My small observation of Southern Italy/Sicily is that there are less restrictions but where there are they have done an exceptional job of laying buoys. Of course not som many people around and long may it stay that way!!
