was a bit disapointed by joshua slocum
very confused about the different tactics between Lin and Larry Pardy DVD heavy weather tactics and Peter Bruce's Heavy wetaher sailing book.
can see argument for both but would try the Pardy's tactics first as could always revert to bruces options second whereas other way round would be harder.

i did not ask for the jopy of socks either.

I am pleased to see that I was not the only muppet who slogged his way through 'The Trawler' . What the hell was that all about? I struggled through to the finish convinced it could only get better!! Wrong...
The worrying thing is that if it was factual are all our deep sea trawlermen on drugs or what? Did the skipper ever sleep? I can see now why you have to give a fishing vessel a very wide berth....most peculiar.

Re: Your first Atlantic Crossing/Gooseberry

This is excellent for a quick flick. It's presented as information, though really it shoud be just an account.

The nice chap fortyish with not much money and a ferro boat decides to do the atlantic with a young mate twentysomething. They need another crew so the young mate announces there is a girl who might be able to do the crossing. Of course the skipper is assured that it is just a friend and the girl has parents in US. They set off. The crew get on ok, but not great and sometimes the crew act all strange. There's a time when skipper and the woman fall out quite badly, not speaking for quite while. A few months after arriving in the carribbe... the mate and the woman get married! so obviosuly erm quite a lot was going on...

For lots of reasons, a totally unrepresentative trip. Discussion about various different boat mat'ls (ferro is very well supported of course) and lots about how to handle the crew, or erm praps not...

Yes I enjoyed 'Bob to the Baltic'. I like his slightly tired and ironic humour. Anyway way its nice to see celebrities putting to sea in timber boats and sailing to the north, rather tham sitting on big GRP motor boats in the Med.

Another 2 books read over the last couple of weeks and highly recommened by me.. 'Flood' by Richard Doyle ( I'll never use the Underground or Dartford tunnel at sping tides again!)
and, 'The Last Legion by Valero Manfredi'........ Jane (swmbo) dragged me off to Venice on one her culture trips, somthing usually to be avoided at all costs. Turned out to be a great few days, and as the book features this area of the Roman Empire, added to my enjoyment. Super book, one of the few I will read a second time.

My daughter, The Girl Wonder, bought me "The Bounty".

It is a good book - but ooohh sooo much detail. A tough read, but it's all there if you want it.

Mind you, I've got to read it haven't I!
