Late August, Arrive in Dittisham, on the Dart, to pick up a buoy. Have done this occasionally before but not really familiar. Spoke with the HM who said we would need to raft against another similar size boat just below the village. Figured that as we would be pointy end in against the buoy we should put out fenders at the front third starboard side with first move to grab the buoy. Resident boat had no fenders. A bit of tide so ferry glided up ever so gently. But of course couldn't get our bow up to the buoy so had to tie up against the resident boat first. Which meant unfendered contact with it. Bloke popped up out the hatch saying you should have said, we would have put fenders out (he was in the cockpit when we did our recce pass). I said 'sorry, didn't know you were on board' (why I said that, don't know - embarrassed I guess). Harridan then popped up from below and gave us a full broadside in best geordie. Rafted in silence. String to buoy. Studiously avoided any interaction all evening. Thankfully they left next morning. Hip, hip! I f%^&"d up. No harm done, but still feel ****. When will I be perfect?!
