I have been told that my current ('scuse the pun) set of batteries are past their best (ie. knackered) and I need to get a new set but want to get some which are going to be reliable but not too expensive as we are hoping to sell the boat this year.

One is the engine start and two are 'domestics' and the other (I believe) just does the bowthruster and windlass and is the most knackered as the bowthruster failed to work as we returned to our berth so we ended up going in 'bows to' which made disembarking for our pregnant guest a precarious moment as the bathing platform was further out than the finger pontoon!

Any advice (about batteries) is welcome as I have little knowledge of these as it's the first time I've had to replace a battery (normally we just buy another boat before they fail!)

TIA

Write down all the information on your existing batteries and take them to your local tyre/battery place. They will supply the same (maybe a different make) at a fraction of the price that a marine store will charge.
Been there, done it, got the T Shirt and saved hundreds.

but byron he's selling the boat this year so why spend loadsamoney on something he won't get the benefit of and certainly won't recoup when he sells it? IMHO just change the worst knackered one(s) with automotive equivalents from Halfords or your local cheapo car exhaust and battery place and leave the new owner to sort the rest. Yes, perhaps not overly not nice, but why spend money on a long term fix for a short term problem?

They will cost less from a tyre/battery shop.... however if he really wants to be a cheap-skate go to Halfords and buy some of those tablets you add to the water, they really do work.
