Need a Yacht Consultant

Just trying to get our yacht in order so we can enter the UK without headaches. The yacht needs to be entered into the company books.
You don't need anything if you are a non UK resident visitor. This is the guidance from the UK government www.gov.uk/guidance/sailing-a-pleasure-craft-that-is-arriving-in-the-uk As a non resident you will be eligible for temporary Admission (TA) and there is a section on how to apply, which essentially means declaration to customs for your boat. Your boat can then stay in the UK for 18 months and you are subject to immigration rules, usually 6 months for an EU citizen. There are no specific regulations covering how the boat is used other than it is for your use or any equipment requirements.

Not sure what you mean by "The yacht needs to be entered into the company's books" To use TA the boat must be owned by a non UK resident and registered outside the UK. In principle if you want to change ownership to a UK company you will have to import it into the UK which will include paying VAT and complying with the RGR standards, which will be impossible for your old boat.

I remember you said your boat was owned by a UK company and registered in Poland, in order to get round the restrictions in Türkiye on second hand boats. Unfortunately that’s going to make visiting the UK very difficult.

You do enjoy taking a very unique / singular approach to things !

As Tranona says shouldnt be an issue for a non UK resident bringing a non UK flagged boat to the Uk for up to 18 months - plus France, Belgium, Ireland etc nearby to reset the clock.

If you do progress the accountant / lawyer route the only ones with relevant knowledge are likely to be those who service the superyacht/ millionaire market, or the commercial shipping one. So could spend a lot on fees as their daily rates will be correspondingly v high.
Have you changed boat to a bigger/ more expensive one, as could easily spend more on lawyers fees than any VAT liability.

As I understand it the boat is already owned by a UK company, sailing under a Polish flag. The owner/skipper is a Turkish resident.

Refer to taking “unique / singular approach” !
And also bought small Baltic spec boat to go to the Med / Turkey?
The thing about choosing very unique approaches is it is then difficult to get advice / help from others doing similar things.
But he asked about accountants / lawyers with such legal experience and the suggestion of one’s assisting superyacht owners is the best so far?

Exactly.. I would like to sort this out before we head out that way. If I can't sort it out, summer plans will be different!

Suggest you contact the customs office in Portsmouth that deals with importation of pleasure craft. You will find the contact details in the guidance I posted earlier under the section on importing boats.
